Cheap s2000..
So I found this 2003 Black S2000 that had 24,000 miles and was being sold for 14,000 on Ebay. I was thinking, hmm.. this has to be a scam, no way is a 23,000 KBB car going for around 9k less than it should.
So I emailed the guy.
and his reply was...
[QUOTE]"Hello,
I'm really sorry for this late reply but I've been very busy lately and away from a computer. The car is located in Louisville, KY with 24K miles on board, in excellent running and body condition, no flaws on it or any other mechanical problems. It has a clear title and it will be signed and notorized on your name as soon as the payment will be completed.
Regarding payment I am aware of the buyer's protection and we will use eBay's motors vehicle purchase protection program which will hold the payment until you receive the car. If you are interested you will be asked to make a deposit of $2800; the buy it now price is $14000.
By sending your deposit to eBay you are not buying the car, is just the way the program works (and in case you buy the car it will give you a 1 month/1000 miles guarantee). However, it is 100% refundable if the car is not as described.
If you are interested please provide me the following informations necessary to take a decision :
-your full name and address for shipping
-your phone #
-any negative feedback and if so .... for what reason.
If I receive the requested information you will be informed by eBay during the next hours with details about your purchase.
The car will be inspected and evaluated by eBay's team so there is no need to ask me about it's condition as long it will be a guaranteed purchase by eBay.
Thank you
So I emailed the guy.
"In regards to the 2003 Black Honda S2000:
What is wrong with the car? What's the story behind this car? How did your dealership come to acquiring the car?
I noticed that the car in excellent condition on Kelley Blue Book goes for around 22,000 and that your asking price was 14,000. Too good to be true comes to mind..?
I'll require all information that you can supply about the car. A Carfax report would be nice, as well as information on how and who inspected the car. Thank you for your cooperation."

If it is a fraud, he isn't making it very easy to tell! eBay does have buyer protection programs, PayPal as well. If you're interested in buying the car, I suggest you research on your own time and not rely and the seller.
get the VIN number and run a carfax on it... only way to tell.
"theres no need to ask me of it's condition"?? what the **** is that? I dunno, that sounds kinda shady... anyone really trying to sell their car is going to want to tell you what you want to know... just so they can sell it.
by the way... I just sold my nitrous powered prelude on ebay... there is no 'ebay team' that comes out and evaluates the car... yeah, if you buy it you can file complaints and legal action against the seller for selling you an item that's not as described... but they're not gonna check it out for you.
if you're gonna do it, get the VIN and run a carfax or go check it out yourself.

Odds are there is no car. Tell him you have friends in that area and would like to see if one of your friends could come by and take a look at it for you before you give the deposit.
I would like to see his reply.

I went ahead and did a carfax for you. But keep in mind, carfax doesn't tell you everything.
Also I think the thing about him saying "there's no need to ask me of its condition," he's just saying that the ebay team will inspect the car anyways, so what he tells you doesn't matter as much as what the ebay team tells you.
It's a pretty cheap car though, and I'd still be wary. Personally I'd never buy a car w/o looking at it first.

it's a scam, why the HELL do you need a $3000 deposit; regardless of ebay or not; there's must be a loop hole...a $200 deposit will do, and he insist that you pay this amount before furthering transaction..I remember when i bought my car, my seller ask for a $200 deposit; i never gave it to him, i just fly over there and pick up the car.
Don't even waste your time with this. IT'S A FRAUD. I think your gut instinct is already telling you this anyway. There was a similar thread about a scam like this. They'll probably just take the deposit and run with it. The VIN is probably taken from someone else's car.
