Cigar/Smoking odor in S2K
Hi guys,
I really like to 2008 S2000 that I saw at a dealership, very clean with good price BUT it had strong cigar or smoking oder!
Is there way to get rid of the smell. It seemed to be coming from the canvas top mostly. Or should I pass???
thanks!

If the vehicle is good, a cleaning (carpet shampoo, top cleaning, etc) could remove a lot of the odor. Hard to say how much though, so you may be have some residual odor. If this is unacceptable to you, I'd pass on the vehicle.

I've owned two cars purchased used that were smoked in previously. In both cases the previous owner did a pretty good job of cleaning out the smell. However, years later there was still a hint. Also, look around for burn marks. Both of these cars had burn marks in places not necessarily noticeable upon first inspection.
I bought a Landcruiser recently that was rank with smoke on the inside. Was able to fix it by running the interior fan on high and unloading 1.5 cans of orange scented Oust into the air intake near the hood.
I did it multiple times over a couple days and the smell was gone. My wife is super-sensitive to cigarette smell and she never said a word about it.
You should probably replace the pollen filter on that S2000 too.

There is a "bug bomb" type cleaner sold at the Acura dealerships. I have not seen it at Honda's though. I used it once to get rid of some stink in a previous car. You "pull the pin" and put it in the floor board on the passengers side of the car, turn the fan to max and recirculate, then let it go with the doors and windows closed for ~15 minutes. Then vent the car. It seemed to work pretty well. It did not cover up the smell, it removed it.
Though a good washing of whatever smells I would think would be the best option.
A car I had ~10 years ago was smoked in, (I smoke but do not smoke in my cars, nor my house) and I cleaned it with Febreeze, it worked for a few months, but once it got above 100 degrees F in the car during summer, the smell came back.

Yeah, it's not a "Bug" bomb, but it works like you describe. You will need to remove the cabin filter before doing this. I forgot the name of the product, I think they are called Odor Bombs or something. If it's really strong, you may have to do it twice. The car does smell like a rental car afterwards.

If I remember correctly, its in a fairly nondescript white can with black writing. It was in the display case at my local Acura dealer in their parts department.
ozone will get rid of the smell, hotels used to use a small ozone generator when someone smoked in a non-smoking room, of course its been years since I have seen a ozone generator for sale so they have gone by the wayside. All that is left is to keep the top down
