There's a national requirement for oxygenated fuel (previously using MTBE, but due to health concerns it's currently ethanol) - but only in areas with a certain amount of pollution. I don't recall the exact criteria though. Anyway, it's not required across the board, but is dependent upon region.

I am in Texas and use Valero.
I believe Walmart uses Murphy Oil from Arkansas.
ethanol is not bad for your car in any way it will actually clean your engine. i took automotive classes and my teacher taught on this subject. a car running pure ethanol will tend to run an additional 100,000 miles longer. i look for ethanol pumps.
