Default Clearing Headlights - Record Time!!

I'm fairly sure that I now hold the all-time record for clearing headlights. THE LONGEST AMOUNT OF TIME THAT IS!!!

It took me 8 hours to do this! 6 1/2 hours yesterday and then another 1 1/2 today. I had to ride my Harley to work today because my car was in pieces in the garage.

I used the oven method too. I have seen posts of people wondering if this works and I can say that it does. Since I haven't done or seen the heat gun method I can't really compare or say which is better. And no, I didn't put the headlights in the oven with the ballasts attached. I removed every single thing before they entered the oven.

As many have said before me and more will say I'm sure: If I hadn't been half way through when I realized how long this was going to take, I would not have done this.

I'm so glad I'm done, now I can sleep.....

I hear ya, when I had one side done, I thought to myself.. WHAT WAS I THINKING?! But once I had everything reassembled, I can say it was worth it.... somewhat..

And you took about as much time as I did.. hehe. Before I started, I spent an hour contemplating if I really wanted to do this. Spent various amounts of time during the process of removing the lense resting and thinking that this was really a PITA. Took another rest break after finishing the first one, and then finished up 10 hours later although all done on the same day.

So 7-8 hours of actually working on the lights, 2-3 hours resting and being pissed that it was so time consuming to do.

Let's see....90 minutes of driving each way, plus 3 hours and 15 minutes of waiting around (lunch at jack-in-the-box, watched the TV coverage of the New York tragedy two days before, read George Carlin's new book) , so 6 hours and 15 minutes plus $140 (including lamps) to have Generation One do the job. Priceless!

I'm only 25-30 minutes away from Generation one, but alas, I was too cheap and impatient to have them install it. So I ended up spending more time doing it myself... go figure..

Oh well, I learned something right? Knowledge is priceless too..

Yeah, after it took me almost 2 hours just to get the headlights out of the car I knew I was in trouble....

Unfortunately here in GA we don't have a place on every corner that will do this sort of thing or I would have had someone else do it in a heartbeat.

Rasputin314 and I had planned to do this to my car the other day, but the night before my car broke down (long story: basically when they put my car back together after the flood, they left a bolt out of the transmission). Anyway, since my car was going to be towed into the shop I called Rasputin314, and told him that we couldn't do it. But while on the phone with him I got the bright idea to remove the headlights before the tow truck driver got there. So we rushed up to my car (stranded at a whataburger) even though the tow truck driver had already been called and was on his way, and removed my headlights. I timed us, and it literally only took us 15 minutes to have the bumper off, and the headlights removed, and then another 5-7 minutes to put the bumper back on.

We were able to do it all before the tow truck driver came, and we even had enough time left over for Rasputin314 to run to the bank, while I enjoyed a taquito at whataburger.

BTW, our cars look wicked with no headlights at all. People at the dealership kept joking me. They said I must have done that so that they wouldn't drive my car at night.

It took me longer than that to figure out how to pop the hood!

I live in NY. Does anyone know where I can go to have the headlights cleared?

Oh, that's great! After all that hassle, they can't even put the thing back together right. It ain't Humpty-Dumpty!!

Sorrry to hear yet another setback in your continuing battle. Hope they get it right this time.
