Default Clutch TSB

I called my local dealer today and inquired about the "new" TSB 054 for clutch noise. They just received their info this morning. I had previously complained to them about the noise and was told it was "normal".

The dealer was very helpful and informed me that my car (MY '01) did qualify. They are ordering the parts tomorrow.

QUESTION: Should I replace the pressure plate and release bearing while the tranny is out? The price for the two will be around $ 350, with no additional labor being charged. The car has 16k on it now with no high rpm launches or track time. Is it worth the $350? I've got to let them know tomorrow so they can order the additional parts, if needed.

Go for it!

Better to do it now with free labor than wishing you had later!

I had My 2001 completely done last month (PP, FD, RB, and Fly Wheel) as in good faith. If I knew then what I know now, I would have paid the $$$ to get a better aftermarket clutch system. Where is Beck/Arnley? I know the Star and ACT clutch Kits are good. Stay away from OEM for the S2000. After doing some heavy questioning, it appears that the clutch is taking the load from the engine and damping the effects on the transmission on back, mostly when engaing and disengaeing V-TEC. For example, 8000 rpm clutch drops with a good clutch will probably damage the rest of your drivetrain over time.

My contact surfaces showed plenty of hot spots. I DO NOT drive my car very hard and I have never performed a clutch drop. I will post pics later.

In addtion, my car vibrates enough to make my feet numb after a 30 minuter drive! Honda is still investigating!

I'm getting the TSB done next week and am considering whether or not to switch to the Spoon Clutch + PP + flywheel....I know it's a much better system, but it's also quite a cash drain!!

My dealer replaced my stock clutch in my 2001. I asked if I could put a ACT in, instead of another stock one and they had no problem with that. I had to buy the ACT of course but they did all the work for free with no hassle

SkipX, and others - if you are interested in the Star stuff, send me a PM - Bulletproof deals with Star Clutches. The ACT stuff is okay, but after knowing a bit more on how Star does their clutch systems, I'd vouch for their product first.
