Default Cold Start-Up Issues...

But I ordered hard wood for my house... the living room, dining room and kitchen and it's about twelve hundred square feet of hard wood in forty to forty-five boxes that take up a lot of space that I have to keep in the garage till I can get the hard wood installed...

Untill then (and I'm hoping that it will be soon) I'll have to park the S outside... I park it between my house and my garage so that the North Wind doesn't hit it hard, but unfortunately it's FREEZING in Colorado right now and it might even snow! It's September!!!! Who would expect snow in Colorado Springs in September... ok... well... I didn't... I thought it would be fine to park the S outside for a few days till I can get that wood into the house, but it takes a couple tries to get the car started in the morning... I usually start it about ten minutes before I go, but the last couple mornings have been exceptionally cold and it's balked at starting up... usually taking about two to three tries before it stays going...

Does the S have trouble in cold weather like that? I know you drive yours in the snow Xviper cuz of your pic that you posted, but I'm pretty sure you garage keep your S. Should I leave the S at home and carpool with my husband for the next couple days till it warms up outside? Saturday is supposed to be 70 again...

And hopefully by next week I'll have the hard wood in...

Whatcha think...?

I think alot of S is kind of known to start up and then hesitate then fire to life. It happens to me and after the first morning start shes all good no hesitation ever again. I think the S doesnt like mornings just like me!! Its all due to variable weather and temperature. I think there were a few threads on this. Mine only hesitates on the first try sometimes in the morning only if its coldddddd and usually starts up no prob. You said 2 or 3?? I'm not sure about that one then.

It gets bitterly cold here in Nebraska in the winter. Even though I have a garage, it's not heated. I've had no trouble starting my S in subzero temps.

Not sure about the trouble starting - mine's always started like a champ.

One thing though, it's apparently bad for the engine if you let it warm up before you drive off...

uh huh huh huh you said hard wood.
anyway, make sure your gas tank is as full as possible. the cold weather makes condensation, water. more gas, less likely a problem.
i think they mention in the manual about temp and altitude affecting the startup.
i bet synthetic oil would help a little because of its cold temp properties. that might be overkill since the car will end up back in the garage.

happened only once yesterday... but this morning it was two times... and sputtered so that I thought I was going to have to try again... but then it jumped to life...

Thanks for the info... in the future I'll just leave the top down all night... sit on a box to see over the frosted winshield... push the red start button and rev to redline a few times just to hear the beauty sing.... dump the clutch and head to work....

what was I thinking...

Good point. Altitude and cold temps could definitely play a factor.

It's always had synthetic oil in it that has just been changed four hundred miles ago... the gas tank, while not full, is only a quarter of a tank low... but since it's Colorado Springs we are at a bit of an altitude here...

the weather is depressing cuz I'm going to have to put the S up for the winter and drive my Eclipse. Sigh...

do the words... hard wood floor do something for you????
