Default Coming from a C5, wasn't sure what to expect

Well, I've now had a few opportunities to really open it up. I rolled away from a light on a very nice divided road with zero traffic in front of me. About 5mph, I punched it (I'm a sissy when it comes to hard launches, just seems too abusive) and shifted at the rev limiter in the first 3 gears, just as the upper part of the tach starts to flash.

Anyway, I must say I was quite impressed!! This little sucker has some balls. It's pretty easy to stay above 6,000rpm and with fairly hard shifts you feel the shove as the next gear engages. I didn't think it would be this much fun in the acceleration department, especially coming from a 117mph 1/4 trap speed C5.

I also redlined 5th gear which in the '05 is right around 125mph. It built speed progressively and quite nicely in the triple digits. I think that is where the big difference shows up between the C5 and my new S2000. The C5 just keeps exploding forward irrelevant of what speed it's already at, even triple digits. At lower speeds it was traction limited for the most part, so the seat of the pants feel at lower speeds isn't dramatically different.

Nice! Glad you like the S2k. What mods did you have on your C5 for it to trap at 117?

Long story on getting rid of the C5. It really was a great and very, very reliable car, had 42k miles on it with a LOT of high speed track days, autocrosses, 1/4 mile drag runs, highway racing and it was basically bulletproof. But, it needed new rear tires and new shocks and I was able to sell it for a very good price. I plan on getting a C6 Z06 in a few years, so this S2000 lease is a stopgap measure and I'm really enjoying it.

Mods to the C5 were: Vortex intake, long-tube headers, catback exhaust, Z06 wheels/tires, and 4.10 gears. My car ran stronger than it should have considering the mods.

Anyway, just wanted to let y'all know I really am enjoying the S2000. What it gives up in straightline speed, it makes up in driving feel and size.

i know what you mean. i came from an 03 cobra, and this is my stop gap with the 05 S. i plan on getting back on the V8 road after a few years. hopefully i'll make enough money then so i can buy the new Z06. 427 is very tempting.

I'm sure a lot of the feel comes from the high reving intake noise. The engine isn't really loosened up either. If the 2.2L is anything like the 2.0L, the engine doesn't really loosen up and rev freely until after about 10k miles.
