04 with 18K - no issues other than living too close to work.

Get out! The 04-06 doesn't have any issues to speak of? No brake rotors, no transmission/shifter/syncro, no window motors, no electrical, nada?

I am being totally serious as I have just started looking into getting one and that would put a lot of points on the yes side.

I am trying to decide between a S2000 and another car, but that's a different thread I will start.
There are no issues. Most of the issues happened with the 00-01 models, and some with the 02s, but thats about it. Things like diffs breaking only happen from abuse, and top wear.... its a convertible - all tops wear.

I guess some people mention that their 1-2 shift is notchy, but personally, I think they are just not used to a direct linkage. The AP2 got upgraded engine components, upgraded shifter components, upgraded transmission components - a whole bunch of stuff to make the car more robust. You can read about it in the FAQ on changes between 03 and 04.

I have an 04 @ 58k miles. I have top wear (1inch tear) but that was prob because of prior owner neglect.
Can you explain the maintenance I'm supposed to perform to avoid soft top wear?

04, 51k. No problems. This car is so solid that it is performing perfectly after needing a new driver door (T-boned), and a new front bumper assembly and cover (T-boning). What is it with me and other drivers running red lights? That is another topic altogether.

Point is - regular maintenance (all fluids) and a great body shop (if needed) and this car is as solid as on day 1.

I love my S.

Now let me tell you about cars with problems - SAAB, Pontiac, Buick. Well, maybe when I have a few hours to waste.
