Default Common problems with S2K's?

Hey guys I'm pretty new here. I dont own an S2K (got a 03 G35 coupe). I'm going to get a new ride in a year or so and was mainly interested in WRX. My friend got me interested in S2K's and I've been in love with them since (not too long ago). So I just want to know what are some common problems with them (mainly years 2000-2002)..?

MY00-01 has the plastic rear window that needs to be cleaned often and clutch buzz (noisy decelration buzz between 2500-4K). Thats it, and some wouldn't really view those as "problems" anyway. If you happen to buy one that has been misshifted or over reved and did not expire immidiately, you could have cracked valve retatiners that might lead to a new cylender head when they go.

MY02-03 gets glass rear window and not sure about clutch buzz. If you want a purists sports car thats at home on a racetrack then the S2000 is for you. coming from a G you will miss the torque of a larger engine in every day driving - the S2000 is somewhat of an off/on driving affair in that etiher you are doddling along getting good MPG's or you are ripping up to the 9,000RPM redline wondering how anything this fun could be had for such a low price of admission

many people complained about a 1-2 shift issue where getting into 2nd is a little notchy when the car is cold. I had it on my '05. I have it on my '04. Ya just have to do it with a little finesse until the car gets warmed up. or double clutch. finesse > 2x clutch imo. others have called is the "1-2 gear grind" - but it only grinds if you shift like an ape.

have you tried changing out your transmission fluid? usually when i flush my transmission fluid this issue is alleviated.

not too many problems with the ap1's but here are a few that i have had with my 01

clutch buzz
driver's side window does not go all the way down with the one touch auto down
oil consumption

- though these are all minor issues and can be fixed with a little maintenance

some things you need to watch out for are

tears in soft top
condition of leather seats (especially driver's side seat bolster)
condition of plastic rear window

if you check out the tsb section, you'll get an idea for the types of issues that need to be watched for

I had the issue with a brand new 2005. Still feel it in my used '04. I've heard all sorts of potential fixes. The dealer had a look and said it's just symptomatic of a cold car - which is true, after about 15 minutes, it doesn't do it at all - it's like butter.
