Competition Clutchs
I often see useful write ups from other members about thier experiences with vendors on this site. Well after trolling for 4 years, its about time i contributed something.
It was about time for a new clutch and after doing some research I was leaning towards the comptech flywheel and ACT clutch kit as many members have. I posted a couple questions about the kit in UTH and the next day I got a PM for Kane_S2k at Competition Clutchs. I was skeptical at first considering i had never heard of the company before and there werent many posters here that had experience with the Stage 2 kit (built for stock cars with more grip then OEM.)
After playing 50 questions I decided to give it a shot over the ACT kit and am i ever glad I did. The clutch is a nice improvement in clamping force compared to OEM and with the 10.5 lb flywheel you get slightly quicker revs without some of the flywheel vibrations from the comptech application.
The clutch feel is nice. I would personally prefer it to be a bit heavier but my last manual was a Saab 900s with a truck shifter so im used to a heavier clutch. The spring back of the pedal is probably one of the more noticable things about the kit as it comes with both bearings. (I could be wrong here considering I got my car with 68K on the clock and on the original clutch but the pedal defintly feels like it has more spring back to it. )
Overall Im happy with the kit and even though I didnt buy my kit from Kane_S2k (its a long story). For more see go here http://www.AutomotiveSpeed.com . Just thought id share my experience.

the on/off of the stage 2 goes away after you put a few miles and break it in. It becomes almost identical to the stock clutch in every aspect except that the pedal feel is even easier and there is a ton more grip.

I have begun snooping around and trying to find if there's a pattern with the clutch buzz. I am beginning to think it's just a random occurance and a sort of hit or miss sort of thing. Not entirely dependant on the clutch company.
I like to think that I am different from most other vendors in that I dont lie to my customers. Out of the 20+ Competition Clutch setup's I've sold I didn't have a single person call me about decel buzz. I called up a few of the guys up myself and they told me they were extremely happy with their kit and wished that I had introduced the company to the S2000 guys earlier. I myself have been extremely happy as well. However, I just recently sold one stage 2 kit to a customer and he has gotten some buzzing. However I know the mechanic very well and his gearbox was not in the best of shape previously. The previous installer had removed and installed the gearbox WITHOUT lowering the subframe as you are suppose to which damaged the input shaft and could have possibly damaged other components as well. The dowel pins were also missing from that gearbox so it might have never aligned up properly which can cause problems as well. In my honest opinion I don't think it's the fault of the clutch but that the gearbox has other issues and is causing vibrations. The clutch disc was perfectly straight and everything greased properly so it's unlikely it's the clutch. Here's a pic of the previous input shaft of this vehicle that was replaced:

I have spoken to the manufacturer as well and out of the thousands of clutches they have sold there has only been one other person who complained about some noises being emitted. His noise went away after a few hundred miles of break-in.
However, I've had a whole bunch of other guys who have never had a single buzz or whistle from their setup.
