Default Compliments of Owning An S2K

Hello S2k world and owners!!

I've owned my 05 S2K no longer than 2 months now and I can't believe how many people would complement the car and chit chat a bit about it.

Does anyone get this much attention when they are out on a nice evening drive or cruising around town?

Yep I always get attention when I drive it. Just met another owner from my town (And my town is about 30 min east of KC and only has about 1200 people in it) the other night. We were headed into the Mexican place we eat at a lot and they were heading out. Just before that we had gone to the liquor store and the woman working there was asking about it and said she had owned one years ago. Then we went for food and met the other owner there. They chatted with us for a while. His is an Ap1 with about 60,000 miles, mine is a modded AP1 with 165,000 miles and spends more of its driving time on the track, so we had a good time comparing notes. I would say over half of sportbike owners give me a thumbs up or nod when they pass me. And I would say about 50% of the time I take it out for a drive I see at least one person taking pictures of it And if on the trailer headed to or from the track, I always catch at least one person taking pictures. And the coolest is how little kids respond to it. Mine is yellow so with the wide wheels and wing is like a big hotwheels car, and kids come running up towards the street yelling nice car when it goes by which is awesome. Not a car to drive if you do not want attention or do not want to talk to strangers about cars!

I’ve had mine for over 20 years and it definitely gets more attention now than when I first got it. I used to get the it has no soul comment from a lot of so called car people, but I have noticed in the last five years or so younger car enthusiasts really go nuts for it. One day I was out and made a few stops and everywhere I went I had someone going nuts over my S asking me about it and taking pics etc. They were all in their twenties and I mentioned to one of them how it seems like all of a sudden people in his age group are going nuts over the S and he said a lot of the recognition comes from Japanese anime which I’m not familiar with.

The anime/manga they may be referring is probably "Initial D". Usually, the start of most car enthusiast back in the day growing up if you were into anime. It features a purple AP1 know as Purple Shadow. Thats great kids these days are still into the anime. I ran in a young S2k owner while I was testing out my TCT problem. His S2k looked really good with the carbon fiber hard top. He had the biggest smile when he pulled up next to mine at the light giving me a huge thumbs up.

I find the same thing with the sport bikes. One time I had a group of about 10 bikes wave me in and I rode with the group for about 15 miles along a curvy mountain highway it was a blast!

Quick stop at the grocery store or getting donuts on the way home from work for the family, I've always run into someone checking out the car and/or saying hi.

In addition to the S being a great car the other thing is in this day and age you don’t really see a lot of older sports cars on the road like you used to it’s mostly trucks and SUV’s.

I purchased mine this past July, I’m also shocked by the attention it gets, completely unexpected.

Absolutely the same for me and my 2009 Rio Yellow Pearl which looks like new gold in the California sun. High school kids packed into a vehicle roll down the windows and give thumbs up and proclaim:" That car is DOPE dude!"! Even chicks on the crosswalk smile and say "Nice car"!

I'm most surprised by the sub-20 y/o crowd complimenting the car. I guess it's become somewhat iconic and internet culture has exposed them to it. It took me off guard the first time some teenager on a bike said "Nice S2000" to me.
