Default Comptech diff and 4.57s FUBAR'D

UPDATE: 6/7/07

Final diagnosis: Tooth of the 4.57 gear pinion broke off. The LSD is FINE.

Guess we know what the real WEAKEST LINK IS.

The dealership thought it was the diff making the noise, recommended replacement at a cost of $3000. The good members of s2ki.com are suggesting that it may be axle nut / hub / bearing. Then they speculated that it might be the stock LSD and not the gears.... nope!

I bought a used S2k diff for $330... it's installed and working great.
For good measure, also had hubs changed and CV joints swapped.

You know, this thread is useless without additional information.

So you drove like a granny for 17k miles, only on sunday and it just stopped working.

Thanks for sharing NOTHING.

I would be interested in what happened too if you don't mind posting on the public forum.
I'm considering getting a spare diff of ebay, and exchanging it for a Comptech unit.
