Comptech housing - worth $400?
according to hartopguy, the AP2 offers better pinion oiling - something helpful for track use. The Comptech addresses the issue of blowing the ring gear rearward due to cap failure. My diff is an AP1. Will be getting AP2 w/Comptech..... Bring on the track days.......... and in the future bring on some more power..... my rear's covered.
Generally how do people break their diffs? From bogging?
I would imagine that dumping the clutch at 5k would send enormous amount of shock through the whole drivetrain (and the diff would break then?), but a lot of people don't seem to have a problem when they do that, yet others seem to break it easily?
Everyone says you have to drop the clutch properly, but what's the proper way to drop? Don't you just ... drop it?
Maybe I'm missing here ...

That's why we "drop" at >6k for VTEC and wheelspin. Takes some of the "shock" off the diff.
When people talk about proper clutch drops, it's usually in the context of preventing clutch burn and keeping rpms up. Dropping the clutch is just that... if your feet are fast enough you can just release the pedal. Otherwise side step to let the pedal spring up.

Everyone keeps saying Comptech diff, however It is just the housing and not the actual diff, anyway that is my understanding someone please correct me if I'm wrong. And yes it is definatley worth every penny, And I don't even drop my clutch.
But if you are getting gears get the diff housing for sure, that's what I did.
I have actually seen a differential of an S2000 with the gears sticking out the back of it due to a clutch drop.

Sorry ... I'm newbie when it comes to dropping clutches. I've never dropped my clutch in the S, and have only done it very few times in my previous car.

But instant wheelspin your not putting as much pressure on your diff.

That is the reinforcement.
The nature of the hypoid final drive in "our" diffs is that the pinion pushes the ring away (when driving forward).
The extra support for the OEM bearing cap prevents the cap from "flexing".
The stronger bolts keep the whole setup better together.
