I know that most people on this forum mod their S2000's, but I have a question for you. Don't you think that if this is the last year for the S series as a convertible that the stock S2000's will hold their value much stronger than a modded S2000? I am constantly seeing threads here where people are bashing anyone attempting to sell an S2000 with mods. I am considering forgoing my warranty and modding my car, but if sometime in the near future some off the chain super car comes out that I want, I don't want potential buyers of the S2000 telling me that they perfer a non SC'ed S2000 or they want the regular gear ratio or they don't like the colored calipers, etc. Does anyone on here have experience buying or selling a modded S2000? Any tips or words of advice?

 

IMHO, any car that is modded loses its value. Especially the performance kind of mods. One, you never get back what you spent on the mods. And two, it is buyer beware for someone wanting to purchase a car that has been modded. Who knows how the former owner drove the car since they had it modded. I am keeping mine stock knowing that if and when I sell it, I'll get a better price and it should be easier to sell than a modded S.

 

Dario's right and it's not even a matter of his opinion. It is a fact that modded cars don't draw the same resale that a stock car does.

It's simple. Look at the collector car circuit. Do you see any of those "modded?" No. Most people want their cars stock because any installation of any modification can be done improperly. That doesn't mean that modded cars won't sell; you're just going to have to wait much longer to find that right buyer that wants their car exactly the way you've modded yours.

The only thing I have added, and will ever add, is the DiGrappa x-brace I purchased a few weeks ago. The hassle of CAI for a few horsies isn't worth it to me. To be quite honest I'm sure a Vortech would be a blast to have but it definitely aint worth $5-6k. I might add the hardtop in the future but probably not for the price Honda is asking.

 

Do what makes you feel good...you don't second chances....and sometimes it costs to play....it's a fun car have fun with it.....

wow Hobby you put out some bucks...i'm up to around 50 but..i knew it going in, I've been down this road before. I've never made out on any modified car I've owned compare to what I put in in bucks..but in fun I've more than had my moneys worth.

any money you put into a car is gone. do it because you like it, buy land/relestate if you want to get money out of an investment.

The car does not go much faster even with all the headers, intake and crap people add. the hp gains are so minimal that they are just bragging Dyno #'s. Unless you go FI or nos, just have fun with it, the trannys, diffs and clutches are weak that you have to replace those too, so you have to commit to a ton of $ or just drive it.

That being said, I'm broke and I would turbo my car today If I had the chance

Doing stuff to your car is a personal decision. When you do decide to mod it up, you must know the consequences and be able to live with those. If you are that concerned about resale value, this is not the route to take and you should know this.
I'm not going to preach to you about whether or not you should or shouldn't do what to your car. I HATE PEOPLE WHO TAKE THAT PIUS ATTITUDE! It's your car, do (or don't do) what you think will give you the most satisfaction, fun and bang for the buck. You have resale value on the one hand but on the other, it's hard to assign value to having spent money and time doing something you have enjoyed.
Can you justify spending $10,000.00 on a world cruise? What have you got when it's all over? In tangible terms? NOTHING! But in your mind, you have had the experience and the memories. How much was that worth?

 

My modded S2000 makes me a lot happier now than when it was stock. All the mods I have done, the cars still is as smooth as stock. I just added over 50% more horsepower to the rear wheels and a lot more torque across the powerband, yet my car behaves as if it were stock, but with REAL power. If you guys are OK getting your behinds whipped by the cars that have come lately than stay stock. Either way, the stock vs. modded combos each have their +'s & -'s!!! PT

 

With the rarest of exceptions, automobiles are investments built to enhance life's pleasure and not fatten one's portfolio. Whatever modifications performed to increase your driving enjoyment will result in memories that will invariably last much longer than the $1-2K you might save by keeping it stock for resale value's sake.
