Confessions of an Si owner
Hi. I own a black, 2002 Honda Civic Si. I keep my car clean, waxed, and probably change the oil a little sooner than necessary. In other words, I love my car and take good care of it. It's a beaut. However, I must confess I am ready to step up to more horsepower, and I love the S2000.
The S2000 is twice the price of the Si. Here is a very blunt question: What differences would I notice going from a 2002 Si to an S2000? Would it be like night and day? Can the members articulate the driving and quality contrasts between these two cars?
Maybe there are members here who have gone from the 2002 Si to an S2000.

Well I went from a 2k Celica GT-S to my new 2002 S and my initial reaction was "Wow!" Then I kind of felt a little misinformed having done NO research whatsoever on it (I originally went to get a new Accord V6 MT). I saw it, took it for a test drive and loved it. Yet I really felt it lacked power south of 6k and since driving around Fresno above 6k is kinda dangerous I became really discouraged about modding it without spending gobs of dough (Already spent 10k on my Celica). The flash of owning an S2000 blinded me and I purchased it on the spot. After some buyer's regret I have grown to love my car (though the exhaust is a little loud and the springs lower it a tad too much). Take into consideration this isn't a straightline car and power gains are minimal at best without FI or some expensive engine mods. Drive it with the top down on a clear night and none of that matters though.
It irks me to hear other S owners or people complaining about the car, mainly because I had the same thoughts about its "lack of power" until I came to the realization that it HAS power, it's plenty quick (mid to low 5's 0-60) it's just there really isn't too many places I can slam the throttle and take it to 9k around here.
It's a fast car period. Not the most practical but then again why buy a sports car for practicality?

Depends on how you will use the car. If you used your Si in daily traffic, the Si is a better car in stop and go daily driving. Personally, I don't feel the S is worth 2X more than the Si. If I had to do it again, I would get an Si for putting around town and not worry about it like the S.
If you can afford it, keep the Si and get the S for the weekend or night cruise.

Great question...the difference goes back to the art and joy of driving. Noticing someone who takes pride in your car you would definitely appreciate the change and thrill. From the change in power, sound, 6 speeds, suspension, and rear wheel drive it is a considerable difference. Being able to take an S2K up to 9K and feeling the grip and the back trying to get loose is amazing. Honestly words really can't describe that feeling...When you compare it to what is on the market the price is definitely reasonable for the technology, comfort and workmanship that goes into these cars. If you plan on taking a trip to NYC, PM me and I would love to let you take mine for a spin. Good luck.
I used to own an SI before getting my S2K. I traded it in for my S.

The cars are not comparable. Anyone saying the S isn't a good daily driver is wrong. I've got 35k miles on my S and mostly all of them are from my to-from work drives. The S is just if not more driveable than the SI is and it has better power and response when u need it in traffic. My roommate has an SI too, and we raced from a light. I was able to barely beat him by not hitting VTEC and staying under 6K when I was not boosted. If I went to redline, I'd walk him very easily. The car has a great flat torque curve, and it is just so SO SO much fun to drive around town. Besides my worries in the back of my mind about the engine and my diff, I absolutely LOVE the car. Another bonus is that people don't seem to f*ck with it like they do my friends SI. The car feels like an Ibeam on wheels or like a big go-kart. The S experience is like no other. I've owned it for two years, its had a supercharger on it since 3000miles, and i still love each time I drive it, especially now its boosted. Worth every penny! Besides the trunk space, you wont miss a thing about your SI.

I would liken the difference between the Si and S2000 to that of the Lexus IS300 and Ferrari 360. Very very large difference in performance. It'll smack you in your face; but then it will also demand much more attention to drive safely. Only make the change if you know you are ready for it, or if you know you are patient enough to learn the car.

Simple, this car kicks ass. Just the sound alone is like night and day. My neighbor has a modded out Si, with intake, exhaust, and a new header. He's dying for an S2000 and swears the S will take his car without any mods. Plus his car sounds like bumble bee farting when he puches it. I love turning on a dime at 35 mph with near 50/50 front to rear weight distribution. I love the top down. I love the look of the S. Plus, it's much more scarce than the Si. Just do it. It rocks.
