I find that 4k seems pretty natural for conservative driving. Normally I will shift anywhere between 3500 and 5k during normal driving.

Drive the car. I sometimes in town keep the car at low rpms to stay quiet and save gas. Sometimes not spending much time in gears at all shift around 3k or so once car is moving. My ap1 Shifts smooth at any rpm. Play around with it.

I also like to rev it up and vtec it let her sing I have no problems taking it to red line or 6k+ starts offs.

But when I got passenger or just mellow and want quiet I can shift at very low rpms once car is moving no up hill.

I think the 5k is for the notchy third in some s2000. But I figured out what works for my s. My car is picky how I shift, once I figured it out its smooth as butter at any rpm. I may just have a good tranny with less notch. IDK.

Have fun and enjoy I dont think there are any rules pretty obvious when the car is not happy with your input.

1. I hadn't heard/read that, interesting.
2. When I'm just sleepily getting to work in the am, I probably shift around 3000 rpms.

I usually shift around 3700 rpms. I base it all upon feel/sound/need though.

Too lazy to find my owner's manual, but someone posted this elsewhere:

1-2: 15 mph
2-3: 25
3-4: 40
4-5: 47
5-6: 52

I shift around 3,842 RPM give or take a couple hundred. Usually I'm in 6th gear by the time I hit 40-45mph.

I prefer shifting at 2178, 3764, 7831 and 10k. All depends on my mood for the day.

Yup that is like shifting a car that redlines at 6600 at 1800 rpm.

Shifting at lower RPMs doesn't necessarily mean better MPGS.

3.5-4k rpm here. I go by sound and feel and that rpm range is about right.
