Considering '08 GPW. UPDATE #4...
Hey guys,
So I know I have taken a little hiatus from s2ki but I'm back with bad news and some questions.
So my beloved '08 Chicane Silver was totaled 2 days ago. I was driving home from work and crossing through the last intersection to get to my house excited for my long memorial day weekend. Just as I got through exiting the intersection some idiot driving a brand new BMW 640 gran coupe x-drive coming the opposite direction decided to turn left early and I just don't really even know what he was thinking. I clearly had the right of way and the kid i guess thought he could beat me out on the left turn. Here is a picture to better describe what happened:
After the police spoke to the kid they came up to my car and said to me that he wasn't making any sense so I'm going to assume he was high or drunk or something.
So my baby is totaled:

... and I spent the weekend in the hospital with a shattered Navicular and Talis bone, a split Calcaneus bone, a broken rib, and heavy bruising accompanied by some scrapes on my chest from my seatbelt. So now I have a fixator in my foot and go for surgery round two on monday.

So on top of my ruined summer, ruined memorial day weekend, inability to work, excruciating pain, and the fact the the kid walked away from the accident unhurt, now I have to look for a new s2k. Good news is that insurance is paying me more money than I bought my old car for (miraculously), and my old car was due for a 40k service and 4 new tires that I now don't have to pay for.
I found a beautiful 2008 GPW with a red/black interior that I love. I know that this color combo is rare and when I checked out this Unofficial count of (US) s2k's link, I noticed that 08 GPW's with red/black interiors don't exist lol. Now I know it's "unofficial," but I just wanted some more information on the color combo and how any were made, etc. When I first looked for an s2k, this and chicane silver w/ red/black interior is what I was originally looking for. Now is my chance to get my unicorn, jusst want some more information on the color combo as I can't find much info about it.
Thanks fellas.

Im sorry to hear about your injuries and car-loss. It will take a little time for the settlement to come through. Take your time picking the perfect new S, and know my good vibes are coming your way for a speedy recovery. Be careful with pain pills.
It probably has more to do with the resale value actually going up in the last few years than the actual insurance policy. You could find a really good deal on a slightly used car 3 years ago, not so much anymore.
Sorry to hear about your situation, hope you recover quickly. GPW with red/black is a great choice, hope it works out for you.

Thank you for the prayers fellas. Second surgery is on monday. Can't wait to get this damn fixator out of my foot
cosmomiller: I called my lawyer on monday and he has been all over it. He's a really sharp guy with whom I have a lot of faith in.
TougeHorseman: I haven't been taking the pain pills because for some reason, and I know this may sound weird... but they don't work for me. All that happens is that I get really agitated and my stomach gets all screwed up for a couple hours. Even in the past when I have injured myself the pain meds did nothing. Doctors have tried a bunch of different ones but the truth of the matter is that they don't do squat and I just have to suck it up and ride the wave so to speak.
AZS2KDancer: I use Plymouth Rock and so far they have been very attentive and helpful through the process.
So I'm going to put out a phone call today for the GPW/red car. I've always wanted the color combo and now is my chance. I know I'm going to pay a little more for it but I'm not too bummed about that considering I'm doing very well with insurance and this color combo is just gorgeous. Plus the mileage on the GPW in question is super low.
Wish me luck guys. Hopefully i'll be the proud owner of a GPW soon!

Ask for a morphine drip if you need it to knock the pain down. Guaranteed it will work and guaranteed your stomach won't get out of whack.
Have you seen that color combo in person? I drove to a dealership with the intention of buying in 2009 and thought the white and red combo with the top down was way too bright for my taste. Chicane silver with red works, IMHO.
Don't want to sound negative, but I'd make sure to see it in broad daylight before making a commitment, just in case.
Good luck with the recovery. Weird that it wasn't your left foot that got messed up.

So guys just an update... (just in case anyone was wondering...)
Had my second surgery and things went pretty well (despite it being a 4 hour long surgery.) The external fixator is now removed, of which has been replaced by 6 screws and a metal plate in my foot. My ankle/foot is in a soft cast until the swelling goes down and the incision wounds heal, and I have a nerve block catheter attached to this medicine ball call an "on q" that I have to schlep around with me whenever I decide that movement is necessary. A week from today I go back to the doctor to have another cat scan of my ankle and have the stitches removed. If the scan looks good then a hard cast gets slapped on for 8 weeks. If the scan doesn't look ok then surgery round 3 is in order.
The pain level is really insane and I just have not been a happy camper as of late also considering that I can't work and I am getting cabin fever. Also, being incapacitated like this really sucks.
All of this "free time" is driving me crazy, but I am finding ways to amuse myself through movies, TV shows, my R/C hobby (just ordered parts to convert my newly rebuilt Losi LST2 to electric), and most of all spend time with the most precious creature walking this earth...
I'd like to introduce you guys to my english bulldog... Mazel:
