Considering Doing it Again
Last summer, I bought an S2000. It was a bit of an impulse buy. Picked up a 2001 Black on Black with 100,000 for $8,000, drove it for the summer, sold it for $8,500. Regardless of the expenses incurred in-between (clutch replacement, mainly), I had a ton of fun with it.
Anyway, this summer I was planning to do the same thing with a different convertible. I was hoping for an E46 M3, but I'm just not sure. All I know is I want a convertible, and I'm most likely going to ditch it after 3 months.
Lately, I've been thinking about getting another s2000. Shop it out a little more, maybe get a slightly modified one, or modify it my self. The s2000 has such a weird market though, I'm just not sure what to do.
I know I sound crazy, buying a car for 3 months and getting rid of it, but it's hard to avoid. I'm in college at MIT (Boston), and a sports car just doesn't cut it here. I have a GLI on snows, which is perfect for my needs. In the summer though, I know I'd hate it. I'll be commuting from Boston to the Jersey Shore frequently, and there's just no greater feeling than having the top down. That said, I'd love to be able to just toss some friends in the car and bring 'em down the shore with me (that's where the e46 idea came from).
So yea, I really don't know. Feel free to toss me some ideas. I'm playing with about 16,000-17,000 cash, loans are possible, but hard to get. I needed to get my parents to cosign last year for a $6,000 loan, which was a bit ridiculous. I can show steady income, but not from the same person so the bank doesn't like it. Parents aren't going to cosign again, but maybe paying off that 2 year $6,000 loan in 4 months will help me out? Got me.
Toss me some ideas?

My opinion...sell the GLI and go Audi A4 Quattro Cabrio 6MT.
One car, fits friends, top down summers, handles snowy winters, fun to drive, sorta sporty looking, and is a good 'career' car after MIT.
Caution: may have similar maintenance to E46 M3
