It's highly stylized, it's not supposed to be 'realistic'. Realism painting is boring; a person's style showing through in their work is what it's all about. I like it.

Maybe.

There's a degree of skill and talent required for realism. That doesn't necessarily make anyone less of an artist for not doing or not being interested in realism, but I wouldn't overgeneralize it as being boring.

Well no doubt, but there isn't as much personal style or creativity in 'realistic' rendering. I guess I should throw that out, as 'realism' is actually a style of art that spanned over many movements, and isn't necessarily rendered as 'realistic' looking. Realism has to do more with subject matter than a painting style that looks real.

Still, the painting shows personal style, and a good understanding of color. The only part I don't like as much is the grass/bush in the background, which looks hurried.

While 'realistically' rendering a drawing or painting takes skill, it is stale and boring and has been done before. I find artists should try and push the limits of their imagination and creativity after learning the fundamental skills.
