Coolant Leaks in Expansion Tank Cap's
Prolene,
What do you mean by hot level? , do you mean the heating of the car, because if it is that, yes I normally drive with the top down and the heating in the max.
Anyway I think that is not normal.

When the engine is hot, the coolant expands, comes out the radiator and raises the level of the coolant trap. The "hot level" is when the coolant is at running temp. If the level is at the maximum line when cold, after the coolant level raises when the engine reaches normal operating temp, it tends to leak out the cap. My experience.
I would think this may be normal on a new car which has too much collant in the reserve or one which maybe was overfilled during service. Has your car been in for service? If so find out if they "topped" up the coolant.

Have you ever noticed leaks of coolant in thecap of the expansion tank. My car has 3000 miles and is leaking a bit. I think is the cap itself.

The car has not been serviced yet. I think personally that the cap is not OK. I also think is not normal. I have also a BMW 535i 25.000 miles and never happened.

Can't have that
Are sure it is not simply overfull? The MIN and MAX marks are very low on the tank. There is a line higher up that is not a level indicator. Although I drive in extremely hot conditions, I have never seen my tank leak.
