Default Cornering Question

So this finally bothers me enough to post.

Will hitting a small bump mid-corner on corners with elevation changes make the front end to compress enough to scrape the guard flap in front of your tires? I've had this happen a several times, and it's happened in some relatively moderate corners (I didn't think there would be enough loading to scrape after a bump). It feels like it happens when it rebounds too slow and the car comes down hard after the bump and scrapes.

I am on my stock 07 suspension.

I traded cars with my buddy's 05 once and noticed he had a much firmer suspension. We didn't have any corners that could recreate the scraping, but his had noticeably less front end compression dive under moderate braking. The MY FAQ page says there's no suspension differences though. I think my car suspension feels perfectly fine and plusher, but the occasional scrape has me wondering if it's not supposed to be like that.

Anyone else have this problem? Or am I just ?

The spring rate is a little bit softer, but to scrape I'd guess you're going straight or too fast over a dip, the road crown, a speed bump, or *very* large road bumps.

I've only had that problem going over a large dip (a road irregularity) or pulling out of poorly designed (high angle) driveways from stores/restaurants. I have to go out at 45 degrees on a lot of those to keep from scraping, but speed rarely a factor as I see it and know what to expect. Often the angle of the road changes so sharply that I flat out cannot enter/exit head on without scraping.

Is that related to what you're getting, or are your roads just *THAT* bumpy?

It's different from the approach angle issue as I'm not scraping the bumper; it is just that little flap guard.

The problem is with a single bump rather than multiple. For example, it'll be a smooth, slightly downhill, tight 110 degree left hander in second. It can be smooth as can be, but if I hit a single small bump mid-corner, maybe 3 or 4 times the intensity of a freeway Bott's dot, the flap will momentarily scrape as the front end "lands".

who cares if the flap scrapes... it's a piece of plastic. Mine have grinded themselves down to about 50% from lapping, no ill effects

What size tires do you have on it? I have seen that happen with 245 Hoosiers on the front of an AP1.

The 07 front sway bar is the softest of all the years.
You can get a CR front bar from hardtopguy for a 100 bucks.
The spring rate and damping is also different but you can try the sway bar first.

I've only bottomed out the suspension on my 08 once. All 4 wheels off the ground on a dipsy doodle. Landed beyond the point where there was still some slope in the road. Oops! Banged pretty hard but nothing contacted pavement but the tires. Believe me, I checked. That was relatively flat compression with all 4 corners being squeezed. Maybe you could do it under the right circumstances in a turn but I'd think you'd have to be flying like I did and come down on one of the front corners. At that point, you would have exceeded the traction limits of the tires fer sure. Sounds like something is wrong. Dampers leaking?

It's just a couple of bolts holding them on.......get rid of them.
