Default Cost of changing out the lock/ignition

Perhaps I am just a little paranoid, but I am thinking about changing out the locks and ignition on the S once I purchase a used one. Would anyone know how much that would cost? Sorry if this sounds silly, but it's a psychological condition, haha.

You think the former owner is going to come and steal it?!?! I can't recommend a locksmith but I know a therapist or two.

Lol... maybe I do need a therapist, guess I am just very paranoid. Anyhow, no one has done it? What if, say, the locks break or something (in case people are shy about answering, hehe)?

it happens. sometimes you take your car to a dealership and an employee eyes your car. he has access to your key and cuts new keys through the parts dept. he has your address in their system and he can easily just show up one night and drive home with your baby.

It's not that easy, you still have to program the chip in the key to work with that car. And the keys aren't cheap ($200+) to get either so the chances of this happening are very low. And yea, for the rare instance that it does happen, you do have insurance to cover you.

Dude how is anyone supposed to answer the question? Go to a dealer and get a quote. New locks, new keys, new ECU. Enjoy. It's ridiculous to think that the former owner of a car is going to keep copies of the keys and then go steal it back. The only time I can think of this happening is if the guy you bought it from is a car thief. The idea that a dealer employee is going to copy your key, show up in the middle of the night and put your baby in his driveway instead is equally ridiculous.

This topic is absurd. Get insurance for christ sake.
