Covercraft WeatherShield Car Covers
While this thread could be in the "Wash and Wax" forum, I thought that placement here would ensure that all potential purchasers and owners of this cover will see this message.
I purchased one of these covers about 6 weeks ago. It has been leaking a lot, even though it is supposed to repel water very well. I just spoke to a Covercraft representative, and she told me that the washing instructions have been revised, and that I should wash and dry the cover according to these new instructions. Then, if the cover didn't work, she'd give me an RMA.
The new instructions no longer say that you should wash your cover at home. Home machines can't get the soap out and the cover will leak. Other aspects have changed too. So:
1. Wash the cover in a COMMERCIAL washer;
2. Put 1/4 cup of powdered washing detergent in the basin. Make sure that it has no bleach or softeners;
3. Make sure the detergent is fully dissolved in the water before putting the cover in;
4. Wash the cover once -- use permanent press cycle (I think warm or cold water);
5. Rinse at least twice;
6. Dry either in a commercial dryer or at home. Use permanent press cycle. Dry for 120 minutes.
This should restore water repellency.

I have been using the weathershield cover for 8 months now. Only washed once. I don't know if it would leak or not, because I only use it at work when it is not raining. It protects my top from the sun very well, and my top still looks brand new.

I was curious if anyone knows where to get the best deals for one of these covers, be it online or brick and mortar. I am getting my S2K at the end of Sept., the car will be stored in a covered parking space, but it is still outdoors and exposed to the air and dust (but no rain). I would like to have this cover for nights and when I am away on trips for extended periods (or would I better be suited with a cheaper dust cover since it won't get rained on?)
