They get paid less. That's all. I had the cup holder replaced without any problems at all. The internals cracked when it got cold. Nothing big had to wait for the part and took a whole day for them to do but it wasn't a hassel at all. If they give you a hard time click on my sig and I'll yellow flag them, that is if you really belive you couldn't have done it yourself and they turn you down.
The only thing I can think of is that the edge of the plastic was cracked before it was installed in my car at the factory or maybe the instrument panel was installed in such a way as to put undue stress on the platic face... not sure

Then you should be fine. What I didn't know when I posted was if there was any damamge that looked like something impacted it. If there is no impact damage, then they cannot say it was your fault.

I'm not trying to open anything. But the damage should be looked at and he should see if there was any way something could have damaged it after the car was delivered. It it was impossible, then great. If not, expect the dealer to balk.
He should be told to expect problems but hope for the best. He should also prepare a good argument ahead of time just in case.
I really don't trust car dealers in general so I'm pretty much expecting them to resist fixing this.
I'll be visiting them this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
It's been a while since people responded to this thread, but I experienced the same problem twice now. I have an '01 S2K. In 2005 my instrument panel cover (the clear plastic piece) cracked vertically, so Honda covered it under the original warranty. The problem happened again with the new plastic cover, but this time my car wasn't under warranty. The piece costs $15 I think, but the labor costs a lot, because it requires removing the steering column. I haven't fixed the problem yet; in fact the crack now extends from top to bottom. I don't want to keep shelling out money for (what appears to be) Honda's inferior plastic, so I'm planning to have a custom replacement made out of a stronger material. It will cost me $100 for the custom part, but I shouldn't have to worry about it again.
How many people have the same problem as OC1515 and I?

Shouldn't be an issue on a 2004, just talk to the Service Manager at the dealership you purchased the car from.
S2k Dude, the first part of your response suggests to me that earlier models than the '04 S2K might be known to experience the issue. Since mine's an '01, does anyone know if this is common with my model year?
