Default Covering VIN Number

Do you cover your VIN # so people can't get replica keys?

Last time I got a replica key, the dealership made sure I was on the DMV tag...

there is probably an easier bypass to ignition anyways.

there is. break window, get into car, replace factory ecu with mugen ecu (no immobilizer) break the ignition lock/cylinder, turn it, start car, drive off.

I used to on my Prelude with an immobilizer, but it still got stolen...

On the S2000, I haven't bothered. It's easy enough to steal without getting a key made.

Covering the VIN plate is illegal in some states. So check your local laws. It's not a bad idea though. I used to keep a business card over the end of the number.

In most states you can go to the DMV and get the owner data from the license plate. Which in most cases will contain the VIN.

However hopefully that leaves a paper trail but based on my experience with stolen cars the police really don't care much and don't really do anything but wait for the stripped car to be dumped somewhere.
