CR Trunk reinforcement

17 Attachment(s)
There's been quite a few requests for this, so I took some (slightly better) pictures today.

The CR trunk has a different part number from the non-CR trunk, and it is due to reinforcement to supplement the CR wing.

Please excuse the picture quality, they were taken with my phone :)

Whole Trunk. All the black things lining the trunk are supports for the trunk; every single one has left a mark on either sheet metal or a support that corresponds to the one on the trunk.

Right side top reinforcement

Right side top reinforcement support (you can see the marks from the top piece)
Attachment 114228

How the top reinforcement and the support line up
Attachment 114229

Support at the "bottom" (end) of the trunk
Attachment 114230

And the mark it leaves on the bumper
Attachment 114231

left side top reinforcement support (Lighting makes the grooves the top part leaves clearer; this piece is flat brand new!)
Attachment 114232

And the reinforcement that made the marks
Attachment 114233

Trunk reinforcement (you only see a little piece here)
Attachment 114234

You can sort of see ribbing in the hole here.

Same hole, better picture.
Attachment 114235

Different angle of ribbing underneath the skin.
Attachment 114236

Same picture but zoomed out so you can see which hole I took it through.
Attachment 114237

Another picture, different hole. The reinforcement is very obvious in this picture.
Attachment 114238

And, zoomed out again for perspective
Attachment 114239

Another picture. I have no idea why that hole is there.

And, zoomed out.
Attachment 114240

And, a few pictures of my bumper. The wing pushes down hard enough where the bumper is now mis-aligned. The support doesn't actually touch the bumper when the car is parked....

im just putting this out there but....... car kinda, sorta dirty :D

I've already acquired a trunk and wing and need those side support pieces for the car that you name "left/right side top reinforcement"

Anyone know where these are available? I couldn't find it on the exploded diagrams from HAP

You need to look at 08 and 09 CR with or without AC to see it.

Here's the link:

The parts you want are 13, 14, and 15, I think. You'll also need to get the bolts to hold it on (or go to home depot)

Ah damn, ok I just need #14, I was looking in the right place but did not realize that is the part I needed. After reading the description that is exactly what I need. The trunk when I purchased it thankfully already had the two L shaped bumpers so all I needed was the additional bracing on the car itself.

I'm guessing it's just double sided tape on the back of it to hold it in place?

I have no idea, but there are no bolts holding it on ;)

It is basically a piece of rubber.

Great pics, makes me wonder about guys just slapping a wing on a non-CR and calling it a day. Honda put some engineering into that set up.

Good photos Mike, I now have a reference when people ask for pics

I'm looking for the reinforcement plate that goes between the trunk skin and the frame. Do you know if those can be purchased separately?

Thanks,
Nicholas

Can you make a picture with an arrow showing the exact piece?

I'm looking for the reinforcement plate too. I want that CR wing w/o having to buy the CR trunk.

old topic - but i am curious now -

I have an APR spoiler -- can i use these reinforcement pieces? will it help me / is it possible to work? What do you think?

+1

Would I need to apply reinforcement for a carbon fiber Seibon FT wing on an OEM trunk?

Should I worry about down force and trunk deformation?

The short answer is the reinforcements will fit on any OEM trunk lid and yes the trunk will deform over time without them. In the case of the CR wing it does apply considerable downforce at highway/track speeds so any "engineered" wing will cause the same results.

After installing my own CR wing on a non-CR trunk, I found that the main issue for trunk reinforcement isn't all these small pieces to add afterwards, but bracing the trunk skin itself. I followed someone elses guide where you're supposed to install sheet metal pieces under the wing stands, but that didn't do an amazing enough job either.

I ended up jamming cardboard between the trunk skin and the built-in metal webbed bracing to help combat the flexing, but I'm looking for a more aesthetically pleasing and removable solution still.
