Default Crakcing sound when hood goes down

I have had my car 3 weeks now and I have noticed that sometimes when I put the roof down there is a cracking sound. I am not overly concerned, but I am wondering if this is a normal sound? Shall I take it and get it checked? It is brand new, so under warrenty.

Mine had an abundance of overly gooey, sticky-backed foam stuck about the forward hinge joints (right above the windows). It was making the two ends of the roof frame stick together which created a loud cracking/snapping sound when they pulled away from each other as the roof folded back. It also made the roof jerk back roughly as the pieces snapped apart. I removed the sticky foam on the frame ends and no more sticking/snapping. the roof action is much smoother now so I'm sure it's easier on the motors too. I'm not sure what the exact purpose of the foam is supposed to be. If it was supposed to enhance water tightness, I've had zero leakage before or after taking it off. It may also have been to keep the ends from rubbing on each other and making noise but I've had none of that either. I suppose a person could put a small piece of self adhesive felt on one of the ends to provide a soft contact between the two pieces if they wanted. I'll probably do that myself even though it hasn't seemed necessary to this point.

i know that the we've got different terms for everything, but when you say hood, you're actually speaking about the folding soft-top, right?

this may sound too simplistic, but is there anything back on the parcel shelf aft of the seats. maybe you're crushing something back there.

It is the softtop coming down and there is nothing back there getting squashed. It seems to be at the halfway stage that the noise happens and I guess it is a stlightly jerky movement in all.
