Default Crap, crap, crap - HELP!

Ok gang... I'm a big ol' idiot! I was out buying a TV yesterday... went to put it in the passenger seat... needed about 2" of clearance and thought, I'll just put the top down and ride the 1.5 miles home that way... put the top back and POP! the entire back window snapped and now there is a huge rip in the plastic.

Is there anywhere to get a cheap rear plastic window? I have been quoted anywhere from $850-$1500 for parts and labor.

Also, can you retro-fit a top with a glass window?

Thanks.

1. Yes, you can get a new plastic window without replacing the top...probably will run you btw. $300-$500.

2. Yes, it is possible to retrofit a glass back top on a MY00-01 but it takes a lot of work and many dealers won't do it because it involves a totally different top and parts. Do a search...there have been several s2ki owners who have made the switch from plastic to glass.

Cool! Thanks a ton! I was thinking if it was going to cost me $1500 or so... I might as well buy a hard top... I am calling around and pitting Auto Glass Shops against each other... doing the old... "well so and so said they would do it for this much..."

Putting top down in cold weather = bad. If you are in a pinch I would tape (black duct tape) up the rip and replace as soon as possible. unfortunately I have not read to many low cost fixes for this mality.

Using the search feature I found this return for you:

Just use caution...putting on a top requires a lot of mechanical knowledge and no two tops are the same. I know if you go to a Honda dealer, they will replace your plastic window without replacing your top.

If you decide to retrofit a glass back top, then make sure you feel 100% safe with whose hands you leave it in because it requires different parts then a MY00-01 top. Being the owner of both MY00 and MY02 there is a big difference in how each top goes down.

Primo and Hate,

Thanks! I appreciate it. I'm new to the NY metropolitan area and it's hard to find people nice enough to even talk to you... so, thanks, I appreciate it!

I would slice the top even more and claim vandalism through your insurance. The worse is you'll need to pay a deductible. But it depends if your deductible is low (like $500) and how lenient your insurance company is. That way you can get a new glass top.
