Sorry for your loss and appreciate your honesty, but, to beat a dead horse, heavy throttle applications in mid-corner = disaster. And in first gear? Hope others will learn a lesson from your misfortune and that your car is speedily repaired.

best possible scenario is your alignment is wacked.

other possibilities are,

bending rims - check if wheel is touching tire wall. if that's the case, you might have to change tires. it's better to change set of front and/or rear.

control arms - not fun.
trans axle - not fun either.
other suspension member - really, really not fun.

I hope you for the best possible case.

I'm also surprised that you could even put it into 1st gear like many others have pointed out, slow entry, fast exit. keeping engine in vtec during cornering is important but saving your car and/or your safety is more important.

cheers,

beware of the car's behavior in wet weather as well. straightline or in a curve, hard acceleration together with quick, high-rpm shifts will lead to trouble. hope to see pics of your car fully repaired. take care.

You're certainly not the first to do this. If your car still has the spring spacers, I'd definitely expect the dealer to fix your damage for free. Indeed, I'd call them lucky that no one was injured.

If the spring spacers are not there and you are fully at fault, same story. I'd consider yourself lucky.

I think there are rear control arms that you likely bent or broke. You're no way the first to spin. Rear wheel drive cars handle differently from front wheel drive or all wheel drive. The S2000 is one of the best handling cars until it isn't. Then everything happens fast.

Think of it like learning to ski. At first, before you know how to fall into a turn, all your "reflexes" end up in yardsales. After you're good, you take steep hills that at first seemed impossible.

My Honda ATV came with an offer for $100 back if I took a free certified ATV course. Something like this would be a good idea for S2000s also.

But then we're all great drivers, aren't we?

cheers everyone for all the info.

its up on a ramp as i write this and waiting to hear the results......

will put up some pics when its done - think it'll have to be paid for personally as an insurance claim would send my premium sky high!

pity that would have paid for the stereo i thought i couldn't afford!

my bets are that it'll be 1-2 K - thought about using this as a chance to get some new wheels, but i really like the stock ones, and when add tyres into the price will just add to an aleady too high bill

i know now VTECH till 600 miles, but i did have to try it just a few times.....

unfortunately will prob be driving like a granny for the next few months

Well, I don't think it really matters what gear you are in. I was in 3rd gear doing 20-25mph, and got on the throttle about 45%, and the tail stepped out on me. It was dry pavement, but very smooth asphalt, and very cold tires (45deg F ambient).

Also, I would make sure that your alignment is good. A lot of people have been finding that their alignments are off when they take delivery. A little bit of rear toe-out can really cause power-on oversteer (I think that was my problem, as well).

Also... don't be surprised if your bill is more than 1-2K. I recently wrecked my S2K (considerably worse than yours, but a lot of the damaged components were probably the same). Total bill: $21,000. If you bent/broke one of the driveshafts, those are about 500 bucks a piece. Control arms aren't cheap either, and the wheels are 400+ Retail.

By the way, it's "VTEC", not "VTECH". If you don't even know that much about your car, you probably don't know enough to be trying to drive it aggressively. Plus, you should've known not to go above 5500 RPM until after 600 miles (it's in the owner's manual). Learn more about the car, then go to a driving school or autocross. If you aren't willing to do that, then I'd say that you need to stop driving the car aggressively (or stop driving it at all). It is a true performance car and takes a lot of effort and skill to drive well.

I can't berate you too much, because I've wrecked my S2000, too... but hopefully you will take the time to learn how to control the car in a safe environment (autocross, driver's training event) instead of pushing the limits on the street. There are too many "unpredictables" on the street to be driving this car near its limits.
