Default crazy repair qoutes from honda?

well... i finaly took it in. year 2000 with 78k miles, and i have a chukah chukah sound coming from the tranny. i bough the car LIKE this about 20 days ago, being told at the time of purchase that the noise would go away, and it was just because the car sat. I bought it from luxury motors of hoffman estates, il (a very big, rich company). upon diagnosing my car, honda (different dealership) called me and told me that i need a new transmission, and that my bearings and synchros are shot, they also said my clucth was slipping. now... if all my gears engaged fine with no grinding than how are my synchros shot? and also, how is my clutch slipping if my rpms go steadily up with speed, and chirping in second isnt a problem? these are just questions i asked myself. they said it will be $6100 to fix with a new tranny, or $3700 with a used one with about 15k miles on it. they also said it will be cheaper just to replace the whoel tranny than to rebuild. I dont have this kind of money, and i feel like im being dicked around. i traded in my 05 evo for a p.o.s. lemon. id rather be making those 330 per month payments again and not have to worry about anything! what should i do?

If you want a car with a warranty, buy a car with a warranty. If you buy a five year old cutting edge sports car that has a funny noise when you buy it, why are you griping at Honda for giving you bad news? Shouldn't you be asking the seller why they sold you a damaged car needing $6,100 to make it work?

Just a thought.

If you'd rather have the evo, sell the S2000 and buy the evo, and chalk up the "turn around costs" to experience.

you should go back and get the dealership you bought it from to fix it. after all, they sold you a car that was making noises that they chalked up to "normal". most dealerships, even if you buy an old car, usually give you 30 days warranty if no other warranty is bought with the car.

and yes, they are right on the tranny costs. parts and labor would be more to rebuild it than to just buy a used one.

If you are in Chicagoland (apparently by where you bought the car), post in the Upper Midwest forum and ask about reliable dealers. Get more opinions from another dealer or two on what it needs. Maybe there is nothing wrong with the clutch. You can also probably get someone from the Chicago area or Wisconsin to give you an opinion on the clutch.

They clearly broke the law by selling you this and claiming that the sound was normal. Without written proof this is difficult to fix. But I would go back and tell them you want the repair for free or a refund. If they say no, then raise hell.

i would go back to the dealer you bought it from, but also get a writeup from that Honda dealership that states the problem as proof.. it always helps to bring proof from a dealership, especially when they sold a "lemon"..

the only problem is that the dealership is about an hour and a half away from my house (i live in wi) so i think calling them would be easier, but i dont think they will take me as seriously if i just call. should i just take the hike and go?

i would say it's definitely worth the trip.. your talking $7k.. you know how many mods you can add to your s2!!! or you can just save it and put it in the bank and watch it grab interest and grow to retirement (like grass growing) only kidding.. but seriously.. i would take the ride and get the proof necessary to stick it to the dealership..
1.5hours = saving $7k.. yesss

wow looks like you got screwed....i'd trust a honda dealer over "luxury motors of hoffman estates"....oh and why would you buy a sports car, esp with "wierd noises", without at least getting it inspected at a reputable shop before purchase?
