crease in the rear window
Good morning, all.
I have searched this forum as well as s2ki and found a lot of good advice, but I need some additional input.
I got my car about 2.5 weeks ago. The dealership delivered the car to me with the top down and the boot installed. I was too excited about the purchase of the car and did not notice until the next day (while going through the owners manual and playing with everything on the car) that I had a crease in the top 1/3 of my rear window.
I leave the top up at night. I have tried the hair dryer trick, and the hot water trick. Both of these have helped but not eliminated the crease.
I have tracked the problem to the way that the top folds. If I stop the fold about 1/2 of the way and push the top back in, the crease is eliminated. The problem, I am convinced, is that the original crease has become a recurring problem and will force me to continue to go through this rigamaroll each time.
For more info. I have just received my Miata roll for the back window (I hope this helps) and I have a Muz Mat on the way (I hope snail mail from Oz doesn't take too much longer).
So.. my question for all of you is two fold.
1. Any other advice?
2. Any idea if the TSB issued for the 2000 car will help me. I have looked up the TSB on s2ki.com and unfortunately, it is the only bulletin which is not gone over in any great detail. I would love to have the dealer put in a new window for me and let me start on level ground, but I am not sure if I have a leg to stand on.
Your help is appreciated.

PS - it rained like a mofo on Saturday here in S. Cal so the silver bullet stayed in the garage. Sunday was an entirely different matter. This was my first weekend having the car with 600 miles on her and all I can say is oh boy... we sure are some lucky s.o.b.'s to be able to drive cars like this.

Having the window replaced is no small task. Also, I don't think that it will solve your problem. I've been very careful with my rear window and from time to time the window doesn't fold properly when retracting the top, causing me to get out and smooth it in place.
The plastic window can be a pain and will require extra steps to care and maintain. I'd give it some more time, and like was suggested, park the car in the sun for several hours with the top and windows up. Also, MeGuiare's #17 and Plexus are your friends!

Thanks guys.
Despite the beautiful weather yesterday, it is raining again here in Newport Beach. Ca Ca.
It is supposed to warm up later in the week, so maybe I will do the unthinkable and leave my car on top of the parking structure at work one day with the top up to see if that helps.
Thanks again for the input, I appreciate any and all comments.

I hope that the first thing you did was to call the dealer to let them know you had this problem since day 2. You should also show them the symptoms, but tell them that you are willing to try "fixing" it yourself. If you need to have to have the window replaced at a later date (I believe they can do this without replacing the complete top), it should still be covered under the warranty.
Warm weather is your friend, both for driving with the top down and helping the rear window. It's just hit the 80s here (Memphis) and my window is doing MUCH better. I have also noticed that when it's cooler (I know about not putting the top down below 50F) that the window will tend to wrinkle VERTICALLY if not manually smoothed out as the top is being lowered.

Da Hapa,
The Miata roll should help. I actually use a soft cotton towel over the window before I fold the top down.
I read the TSB you were referring to and it states how a technician would get the crease out by using hot water. It also tells you how to take care of the window (recommending certian products to clean the window with). The TSB might go as far as recommending replacement of the window. I know that RHES2K had his window replaced and the dealership didn't give him any problems.

Marks2k-
where were you able to find the TSB? The only link that I can find on s2ki.com does not actually show the TSB, only a summary. I would love to see the actual document?
Thanks.

I haven't tried the much-touted Miata Roll. I use a simple terrycloth towel to protect/preserve the outside of the rear window. I lay the towel across the window and then tuck it under the top where it overlaps the window on three sides (top + either side). This protects the top from scratching, minimizes creases and protects the window from the pressure of the top frame bar when it presses against the rear window upon lowering. The towel, combined with the Muz Mat, has kept my rear window looking as good as new (after 18 mo. & 16K miles).
