Hey Guys and Gals..
I know, I know we all have rattles... But Dang IT! It's driving me mad!
My car is one week old... Started the 3rd day of ownership..

I've done searches and have tried the Rearview and Visor.. It's neither.. I know it's coming from the passenger Door/Dash area..
But just to make sure I did the visor/rvw test, bec. of all the posts I read about sound reflection and such...

While driving around W. LA today I saw 3 s2k's... Two waved.. It's so very cool that everyone is so friendly!
And, I got 2 nice car comments while actually driving.. One by a dad and his 2 boys in 5 yr old bmw convt.. and the other by two young teenage boys walking down the street..

Oh, and trying to wash your own car living in an apt. in W. LA is next to impossible.. Had to go to a Coin Op.. But did not spray directly on the car.. Tried my hardest to avoid direct full spray.. Kinda worked..

I am guessing jprivara is correct.

Try opening the passenger door a closing a (dry) cotton washcloth or towel in it, between the door panel and the dash. I have heard that some people get a creaking noise from the door material rubbing the dash of the car.

As for a fix if that is it, you'll have to figure that one out yourself

My drivers side did this for a while, but then it stopped. I thought maybe whatever was rubbing wore away, but I can't see anything.

Is this with the top up or down. The strinke plates can make noise and there is a TSB for this problem. I had an irritationg noise when I did not tighten my spare tire bolt down, you could tell it was form the trunk area though.

 

I was thinking spare tire nut also......check it, common source of noise on new cars.

I am getting the same thing in my MY02

I have a rattle in the center of the dash. a rattle in the passenger side door, not from the seatbelt. Sounds like it is coming from the top. I have a squeek from the driver side seat. happens once in a while.

and best of all.. i think i have a loose nut or someone threw in a nut in my exhaust, and it rattle at 3RPM. sucks....

 

i had rattling... and it took me a while to figure out it was my seats rubbing against my roll bars (back of the seat, headrest part)
all i did was move the seat up a notch and it stopped...
sure is uncomfortable to sit, but it's ok... as long as i don't scratch the back of my seats! mines 02 so we have that silver thing there to annoy us by noise and show off all the scratches!

 

I have a rattle from the plastic tray the top sits in when it is down. Because of sound reflection, it sounded like it was coming from the right door. Next time you hear it, try pushing down on the tray.

 

Wow dkhl, you've got a lot of unwanted noise.. That stinks, sorry to hear that.. Let me know if you resolve any of your problems..
I know exactly how you feel.. This shouldn't be happening in a brand new car.. I had an slk230 for 2yrs and it was very solid! Though the chasis wasn't nearly as stiff as it is in the s2k.

I've done all of the recondmendations.. Nothing seems to be working??
I did push down on the dash, right above the pass. side vent, near the airbag, and it seemed to lessen.
I think i'll give it some time b4 i bring it to the dealer and have them start pulling my dash apart. Maybe it'll dissapear on it's own.
With the top down and the radio on it's no longer audible, so I guess that'll be my temporary solution.

Let me know if you guys have any more ideas.. I'll keep you all posted as well..
