Default Cruise control issue

The cruise control is not working on my '03 GPW with 109k miles. Any suggestions on source of the problem? Most everything else works like a new car

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere; I did a couple searches but did not find anything...

Just started we assume?

Other than mechanical cable problems a common cause is a broken or missing spacer in the brake pedal mechanism.

Page 4-54 of the Service Manual.

Broken white nylon spacer from the brake pedal position switch (broken parts usually found on the floor below the pedals) will cause this as without the spacer the car thinks the brake pedal is depressed and cruise won't work when that pedal is depressed. I think the spacer common to many Honda cars and is like six bucks at any Honda dealer. There's one in the clutch pedal as well. Car won't start if that one is missing.

Frequent problem. Someone will post a diagram of the pedals and spacers soon.

Thanks Chuck....page 4-54 and the rest of the 4-xx section gives helpful info for this non-wrenching guy. I'll take a look for any broken spacer parts tomorrow. I'm due for a service visit soon and I think the head of the service department at the nearby Honda dealer owns a COUPLE S2K...so I should be able to get it fixed before the real summer driving season.

Common problem with Honda's is the brake pedal switch. Have someone go behind the car and push the brake pedal to see if they light up. I have personally replaced 3 of these over the years and every time I was told my brake lights were not coming on. Each time I noticed the cruise wasn't working. Might not be the problem but it sure is easy to rule it out.

These spacers are good preventive maintenance for a 25 year old car. I had all three (?) of the nylon spacers replaced two years ago as I was fixing to go to military reunion out of state and wanted my old buddies to see the car with the vanity plates showing the unit. Didn't want to be stuck with a car that wouldn't start or the cruise not work. A couple of mechanics at the local Honda dealer (I know, know) are familiar with the S2000 and I let them crawl under the dashboard -- and get out!

The CC in my 2002 did not work from the day I took delivery. I researched it and came across a thread in this forum with a link to a video showing how to test the controller. Very simple to do and it proved the controller was bad. A few days later
I had a replacement and the CC works fine now.

Hope this helps!

I found the link to the video that helped me diagnose my CC problem:

Good luck!
