Cruising gear
Greeting s2ki peoples
I must be bored just wanted to know peoples prefered cruising gear.
the speed limit here in oz is 60 kph (about 35mph which correct me if im wrong is the adverage speed limit everywhere else)
I usually sit in fourth, but when my old man drives (when im felling kind) he likes to sit in third.
What is your gear of choice? why?

Average speed limit where in a city? Cause our freeways are 65+ mph. That being said I'm either in 3rd or 4th @ 35mph depending on mood. I usually like to cruise to the sound of a nice exhaust note; regardless if I'm losing a couple mpg
It's about RPMS. The F20C motor and AP1 transmission like to stay above 3,000 RPMS no matter what gear you are in.
You are actually getting worse fuel economy lugging the motor at 2,500 rpms than you are with light throttle at 3,500 rpms. This is a high rpm car. It's not going to hurt it and as long as you aren't flooring it you are not burning extra fuel until you are in VTEC.

My understanding is that with lower revs, and slightly wider throttle openings to achieve necessary cruising power, you get less restriction for airflow entering the engine, as well as more complete combustion of the fuel, and therefore get better fuel economy. I'd love to read of empirical studies showing otherwise, though.
Anyway, back to the OP's question - personally, at 35mph, hmm, I'm probably 4th gear more often than 3rd, but not exclusively so.
