cryo treated 4.77 with stock AP1 diff
i know that it's popular to get a comptech reinforced diff or an AP2 diff when you upgrade your final drive gear. should i be worried about any problems if i keep my stock AP1 diff and put a cryo treated 4.77 in? i DO NOT launch or dump my clutch at all.
No worries, if you are none abusive to the rear. If you get a quality install and use good 90w fluid the rear will give you years of service. Up grade the clutch and go do a few hard shifts and then you may see an issue. And as for the 04 diff being any better The cap has a revised design that is a bit more square but, not any stronger in my opinion. Comptech no longer makes the reinforcement you will have to get a used one or a generic one that is now being produced.

It will be a bit more taxing on the rear end during hard/quick shifts, but I don't see that being enough to kill a stock housing.
up to "but I don't see that being enough to kill a stock housing".That clutch setup has a 70% over stock clamping force. You will have to feather the clutch to keep it from banging the gears. A clutch upgrade only moves the week link to the rear. You will just have to be mindful of what you are doing
I think the ap1 and ap2 housings are identical except for a tempering change. You could have the ap1 housing itself cyro'd. And if puddy is sucessfull with his new caps you could add those too.

Like puddy says, if you're not going to dump it you're fine but I have to tell you I blew one apart hitting SECOND racing a porsche. That was with 444's 310rwhp and an ap1 housing. My hp is now 50hp+ higher with 457's and a cyro'd housing I haven't been able to break it with lots of launches.
