Default Custom exhaust

I had a discussion with a friend whose car I detailed ('03 WRX) and he was telling me that since Imprezas use a flat 4 engine, they're better suited for dual exhausts, one per side. This got me thinking. Could a custom exhaust be made for our cars that will keep its dual exhaust look while obtaining the power increase of a single? Maybe do something to the extent of having a header with 2 outputs, each paired with 2 cylinders, and just have those stem out towards the rear? Are there any drawbacks to this method?

On a similar topic, how would a header with 4 individual outputs turn out?

not sure about the s2k, but the later BMW e46 models are that way. as long as the gas velocity is good, i don't think it'll make too big of a difference.

I'm assuming this configuration wouldn't have a cat?

You could take it one step further and run 4 singles

If I ever end up going through with this then yes without catS. Or if the sound is too loud for me then i'll go with hi-flow catS.

Quad seems a bit too much for me. I like the look of dual.

the wrx has a single exhaust though... haha I think you were misinformed buddy.. If that we're true, some one would have swapped out there single for a dual but I've never seen any wrx do so. Most swap out there exhausts for a 3 in. single tbe after upgrading turbos.

I agree. I have never seen a WRX or Sti with dual exhaust. They all use 3" turbo backs.

you guys need to read the posts again. he didn't say the WRX has a dual exhast.. he said it would benefit from a true dual exhast.. not a single pipe splitting at the end.
