Custom Lic Plates

Jeez, I am a PW in this one, but I wanted to add about the "screening" of plates by the DMV.
As I now make a living in Info Technology, 10 years ago I wanted a plate that said "BYTE". It was on a Cobra replicar - get it?
So the DMV writes back and says that this plate is "offensive" and denied. I wrote back with the dictionary explanation of the word byte, then they wrote back and said that the "sound" of the term also figured into their decision. OK, fair enough, that was the end of it for me.
Except..........
About 6 months later, I am waiting at a stoplight, and notice a Honda Civic Si in front of me, with personalized plates that said:
"BITE 1". Go figure.
