Default Cylinder #4 failure

My 2001 S2k's just been diagnosed as most likely having the dreaded #4 failure. Does anyone know what the latest news is on this issue? The threads regarding #4 seems to have dfropped off about 6 months ago.

I didn't purchase the extended warranty but my service rep thinks Honda may help out with expenses in good faith. The catch is Honda will not make a decision on what if anything that they'll cover until they open up the block and see exactly what's failed. This inspection will cost $2500. Does this seem right? Does anyone have any advice on how best to get Honda to ante up?

I'm ready to go to the mat on this one. The car is an absolute blast to drive but it's absurd to expect even the most loyal customer to foot this kind of bill this early in the car's life.

If I recall correctly there were actually a few cases that happened just recently.

Do a search and check the "Under the Hood" forum.

I know the extented warranty is alot of money, but I think it's good insurance.

My #4 cylinder wall cracked at 19k about 1 month ago ( MY2001) Honda replaced the short block and cylinder head no charge.

Yeah, EMC2 had this happen to him as well. He knows quite a bit about the engine since he just put one in his car. There is absolutely no way that it would cost $2500 for the inspection. If you lived by us, EMC2 would do it for free.. haha. All he has to do is compare it to his.. hahaha
