Had my first spin out in the S! 25,000 miles! Reason. BLACK ICE EVERYWHERE!

Getting on the highway entrance ramp had a turn before it merged. I started to slide out a little(no sound) I was just thinking.....this is werd feels like the back end is sliding. Next thing I know is im pointing right at the guard rail! I screamed aloud....holy @#$%!!!! Took the wheel whipped it around to counter steer. Back end then took a spin around tires now screeeeeching!!! Come to a stop POINTING THE WRONG WAY on a 3 land highway! Car had stalled in all this. Start...start...start..turns over I do another 180 and pull over. Luckily there were no cars behind me or in the area where I spun.

I have winter tires on the car and ran them last year! I then slid another 2 times but not nearly the same results. Though it showed me that damb this car is on ICE! I was even going very slowly the next two times I slid.

Damb I gotta say is watch it out there! Thing is I wasnt even going fast!!!!

Glad you are ok...

This car is downright scary in the ice. Its times like this I enjoyed the traction control and Active Handling in the Vette...

before people say those items are out of character in a sports car, well they can be shut off for that pure, get sideways all the time kind of moments... but when they were on, the car was super stable in the ice. The only bad thing (I guess) is that that it wears on the rear brakes a lot more, but its better than wrecking your car...

Pinky, glad you are safe... luckily it doesnt freeze here in the NW too often...

Rule 1 --- "When in a spin, both feet in!"

This way you will not have the "action - reaction" result of one side of the road, then the other. And secondly, you won't kill the motor or be braking against the motor's powering of the rear wheels.

I am glad to hear that you (and your car) are ok!

I concur with S2000owner's rule number 1 - it's the safest way to dissipate rotational energy.

And that way you find out interesting things about the S2K. Like ... antilock brakes work when travelling in reverse at 50 mph . Glad you're OK Pinky.

Net Nanny Note: This was on an autocross course in the rain. Got first place in AS that day, probably because so few of us were crazy enough to run. Now I'm called a "mudder" .

I had both feet in but I guess in the spin I had taken my foot off somewhere in the spin or afer I stopped. I was damb amazed that I was able to keep the car "under control". Well at least from crashing into something. Guess its just a word to the wise that you can have even snows on your car and in really slick conditions anything can happen......and its not just the car nothing could have helped that situation except a front wheel drive car!

I experienced the same thing on the snow when i was caught unexpectingly in a snow storm. But i was forced to slow down do to an almost hit and run driver when i compensated for his bad driving my bad end slide out from under me. first left then i counter steered and straightened out the car but i was coming to a curve in the road and was forced to attempt to turn in which the rear end went the opposite way and that was it for me...should have the car back this week...been a month without it
