Damn the man, Need advice (redlight cameras, speed cameras)
Well Toledo Ohio decided that the 4 redlight cameras in the city are not enough. We are now going to have 9+ intersections armed with them. I have little probs w/red light cameras other then they serve no purpose except to make $ for the city. (Studies have shown that making a the yellow 1 sec. longer is safer and more effective then RL cams, but they don't get $90 every time someone uses that extra second) Now for the kicker, it looks like they are going to start mailing out speeding tickets, BAH. The RL cameras don't bother me because I don't run lights, I have been known for breaking the speed limit now and again. And yes they are going to ticket for both speeding and RL running separate. QUESTION: What plate cover can I get for my rear plate so they can't photograph it? I'm sure there is a polarized plate cover or something that does not allow to camera to read my plate.
Thanks

The red lights should be easy enough to avoid. Unless you have to do a hard brake to stop in time, stop *any* time the light turns yellow. I live in Austin, TX, where people charge through the intersection well into the red part of the green/yellow/red. More than once I've almost not been able to go on a green because of the red-runners chewing up all my green light time. It's always satisfying to see those guys get busted. Oh, also, memorize the locations. The fact that you know how many intersections there are probably means you can find out which intersections they are and avoid them or be extra careful about them.
Speeding's another matter. It can get downright dangerous to travel the speed limit around here. If you can find out what the tolerance is (e.g 110km/h threshold in a 100km/h zone), you can ensure you drive a few km/h slower. But if you're in thick traffic going faster than the speed limit, that camera's going to have to have a bunch of film in it to get everyone
Sorry I can't help you on that one.
As far as camera-proof covers, I'd be very very careful about that. The police will be far more familiar with those covers than you and will recognize yours very quickly. This means that if you get pulled over, you might've gotten a warning, but because of the cover the police officer might decide to give you a full-blown ticket. Then you're trading one danger (that you can control, mostly) for another . Plus they may be illegal in your part of the world, kinda like driving with your licence plate light out around where I live.

Thx for reply hoof. I just dont chance red lights, in fact, i have been almost rear ended a few times because the peep behind me thought i was gonna run it. There are ALOT, i mean a TON of streets in Toledo that have speed limits that are just plain stupid. Too many 35mph zones that should be 45 IMO. And IMO to top things off, peeps in this town just dont speed that much, dont get me started on the idiots who 'drive' in the left lane at 10mph below the speed limit. As far as geting tickets for having a cover, i would rather take my chances geting pulled over then getting ticket in the mail. I was just hoping that a board member would have a tested and proven cover, I'll order from over seas if needed.
thx

Do a google search on "license plate photo radar" and you will find a ton of fresnel lens type devices that obscure your plate from certain angles.
I've also heard that no front plate = no ticket (in some areas, at least) because the picture that shows your face doesn't also show your license plate.
As for revenue collection, I'm far less opposed to these devices than a step-up in traditional speed traps. First, I know where they are, and second, they are easy to avoid or defeat. Kind of like the lottery; a tax on those who don't know better...
When the locals get out their new laser-gun toy and set up a speed trap on some low traffic, straight as an arrow four lane road with a 35 mph limit, even my V1 might not protect me.

You might try the back of Car and Driver or Road&Track for the license plate cover. They are usually advertised in the classifieds. What ever you do, don't drive around in The Socialists Republic of Ohio without a front plate. The KGB(police) will not think twice about pulling you over for this. One other thing you might do is get an infrared filter for your front plate. This will keep the police from getting a laser radar reflection off your front license plate.

Hmmmm We kicked them out of our city! The local population was so outraged that every politician felt the heat and voted to pay a huge penalty to remove the camera vans! We had radio callers telling others where they were hiding, some guys got on the news by standing in front of the speed cameras with a bed sheet that read," Go Brah, Go!!!" You can search in the Hawaii Forum for some discussion on this topic, and maybe you could add a K40 jammer or Blinder laser jammer.
