Hi all,

I just went to a stereo shop to have my S estimated for adding an amp and a sub in the trunk. Guess what?

The guy told me it will cost me $1500.00 with labor. Holy shiet!

I don't know too much about stereo mod, but this is wayyyyy to pricey for my budget.
He's going to use a 5-way JL amplifier with a 10'' JL Subwoofer. The sub is going to be a custom enclosure in where we put our tool box, and the amp will go on the left side of north trunk wall facing out. Also the amp will be powering my 4 speakers(I have rears) +2 tweeters AND the woofer as well.

The shop has a good reputation around my area for pro installation, but I have no idea why they want to charge me $1500.00? Does installation cost that much? Or they just want to ripped me off?

By the way, here are some pics of the setup I am talking about.

This price seems way way too high...there is a JL stealth box which fits into the small crater in the trunk and is like $500 at most i think... it has a 10inch W3 i believe. an amp should only run u at most $200 to power that sufficiently. I really think you can get it much cheaper than $1500 and probably for like $500. do a search for the stealth box. just don't go back that place and waste $800 that you can give to me.
good luck
Jason

hmm it seems very similar to the stealth box. I don't really know much about audio stuff. Just seemed like soo much. Try posting this in the Electronics forum and ask around there.

This is the reason that I installed the sub, amp, and radio myself. $1,500 is WAY high. At most, I spent about $700 for the sub and amp.

I paid $375 for my 300/4 amp, and $525 for my stelthbox, 2 days labor was $640. See pics below. How much is he jacking up the price on the amp and sub box?

If you drive to Phoenix I will hook you up with my installer. He dose A+++ work, and he matched internet prices on ALL car streo equipment!

Yea he's definitely jacking up the price. Go to another store (and not tweeter or other big name stores because they hit you hard with retail prices).

I'm not a big fan of the jl stealth box because that's a really high price for a w3. I'm looking at the Kicker 800.4 (~300 online shipped) + a 10" L7 (~$220 w/ box). My local installer wanted to charge me around 1200 for that setup. Obviously I'm going to give it a whirl myself. JL amps are a little pricey and I don't like how low rated their power is. Not enough bang for the buck for me.
