Dash Replacement
I am thinking on having my dash replaced at the dealership [has a big scratch] and was wondering if anyone has had this done on their S before? Is this something that is difficult for the dealer to do? What happens to the VIN code that is attached to the old dash? When I get it done, what do I need to check for to make sure it was done right? As you can tell, I am a little apprehensive on the possible results.
Personally I wouldn't do it myself unless I have a few people helping me and have a lot of tools for that.
I'm assuming you are talking about the rubbery part that includes the air vents and all that right, and goes over the passenger airbag, etc?
That thing is a lot of work and takes a lot of time. Probably wouldn't get the dealer to do it, but at least ask a shop to do it if you have access to reasonably priced labour

buy one... do it yourself.. its not hard.. search the forum to find the info... save the cash..

the vin plate is held in by 2 pop rivets i believe. all you do is drill them out and then re-rivet them to the new dash. You could always use some quick dry epoxy as well

How much does a new dash cost? Seems like it would be expensive.

I thought it would too. Its like $530 or something like that. I have no idea why its that cheap. A dash for my RX7 would probably cost me around $2530
When I took delivery back in 04 there were two scratches on the rubbery part that were not there when I first saw the car. Needless to say I wasn't happy. I wanted a new dash but the dealer asked me if they could try and fix it first. They claimed to have some outside source who came to them to correct problems like this. They said if I wasn't happy with what he did they would replace the dash. I don't have a clue how it was repaired, but the scratches were gone and 4 years later I still don't see them.
For what its worth.
