Default Dashboard and panel care

I just wanted to find out what other owner's think it's a sin to use Armour all on our dashboards and panelling? I personally think it's disgusting. It makes the car stink and it eventually makes a film on the windshield.

I never use it. In fact, I had my 97 Prelude SH for 4 years and never once used Armour All or any other treatment similar to that. I would either wipe it off with water or maybe windex. When I sold my Prelude, the interior looked like it was brand new and it had about 49,000 miles on it.

People give that crappy excuse that it protects the dash from cracking. That's crap. The new materials they use for panelling don't need grease poured on them to keep them in tact. In fact, i won't buy a used car if it's been juiced.

Well u also didn't live in 105 degree Arizona weather. I lived in AZ for 7 years and have seen many cracked dashes due to the extreme heat.

Don't get me wrong, KC is a hot miserable place in the summer ( I grew up slightly north of there in St Joseph area for 15 years), but its not oven hot.

Ok, I'll give you that, but the majority of us don't live directly on the sun like you do.

Hell, I don't even know how you can drive around with the top down in that heat. The Kansas City sun and humidity is almost too much for rides with the top down. I really couldn't ever put it down until the evening when the sun was setting.

I used to use Armor all on my other cars, but then I found some better stuff. I now use Lexol Vinylex on the car.

Just get a big bottle of 303...

Works on your dash and your top.... Looks great on both. It leaves to film, isnt greasy, and doesnt put a mirror finish on the dashboard.

See, I want my dashboard to continue to have the flat non shiney finish it has. I was able to keep my Prelude like new and I won't use those other items if they are going to create any shine. If that doeseventually cause a crack, I think I'd rather just get a new dash panel for a few hundred dollars rather than live with that juice all over the place IMHO.

303 doesnt leave any shine on the dash... A little on the top of the doors.

I might be inclined to try the 303 but plain old water and windex has worked fine for me for years. I'll stick with that until I start to see some deterioration.

Thanks for the tip though.

Well actually, I barely use the windex anywhere. I typically just wet an old T-shirt down and wipe the dash down. The only places I'll use Windex is where body oils have accumulated like on the top of the door panels from people arms resting and on the radio flip cover from fingers pressing it open and close.

The non-streaking ingredient in it seems to absorb the oils of the panels.
