deceleration buzz
Hi, I just pick up a red 00 S2000 with 30k. I did a search and still couldn't find a clear answer, so I just have one quick question.
I notice that when I decelerate from about 3000-4500rpm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear, I hear some deceleration buzz (sounds like metal rattling) which coming from under the car. It sounds like the exhaust heat shield or something is rattling or loose under there or it could be the clutch too..btw, the tranny shift very smooth and the clutch isn't slipping either. Anyway, if I take my foot of the gas it makes the buzz but as soon as I get back on the gas pedal it stops. Also if I push the clutch the buzz is gone and also if I put it in neutral and just coast there aren't any noise.
Thanks

It's the clutch springs that make the noise, but the noise begins in the transmission as a vibration.
It has NEVER been "fixed", just made less intrusive. As already stated, this can be found even in newer cars. There are variations in manufacturing of any mechanical part and even today, clutch springs may not fall into the middle of the acceptable range of construction. They can still "buzz". Doing a clutch job does not ensure a resolution to this phenomenon.

I have an '05 with 10,200 miles..i took the car out of storage last night and i heard it for the first time (same decel..any gear.. around 3000..the buzzing sound from around the center console)... is this the dreaded clutch buzz? (anyone have the link for the tsb?)
i wonder if it can be anything else... i'm wondering because a) i thought the clutch buzz was gone after '02 ap1...and b) i only have 10.2k miles (i thought it happened after more miles than that)
any help would be great..thanks

The "deceleration buzz" is a well known issue with the early S2000s. There is a TSB on it:

You may or may not get your local Honda service manager to perform the service as a "good will" gesture, depending on your relationship with the service manager. Good luck. But as others have said, even after the TSB is performed, the noise would come back after a while.
