I remember seeing the S2000 in a preview article in Playboy or Maxim (can't remember) a few months before it came out. I immediately liked the styling and from what the article said, the BMW's and Porsches wouldn't be able to compete. And the part I remember the most was the $32000 price tag. It was a car I could afford. After driving a Miata for the past 8 years, I was in need of more horsepower, and I definately couldn't give up the convertible top. So for me, a Porsche or BMW wasn't even in question. Why would I pay more for a car that doesn't perform as well and in my opinion, look as good as the S2000. I put my name on the list before ever seeing one in person. After being on the list for 3 months, I finally got to sit in one they had at a dealership. After that, I knew it was the car for me. Needless to say, my first test drive came as I drove the car off the lot, right after I purchased it. I don't regret not test driving it. What's not to love about it?....and by the way, I love my plastic window!

I really didn't even consider the Boxter, it had too many things about it that I didn't like...

1. I really don't like they way they look (a bit too girlie)

2. The car feels a bit too soft for me (personal taste)

3. Too much money for the product (can't shake the feelin' I'm paying for the name)

4. No dealer near, cost to maintain.

The car has it's +'s as well, but they were not enough for me to justify purchasing it over the S2000.

Price was a big factor, as others have mentioned the $20,000 difference between the cars. Of course I alos bought it for the Honda reliability. Being a very exclusive car was just a side benefit.

I was not considering S2K or Boxster, but S2K or Boxster S. Well, first of all, I just don't think Boxster S is $20,000 better than S2K. And, if I were to buy a Porsche, I would save my money and get a 996.

I had a deposit on a Boxster for three years before it finally appeared here. I was number 19 or something on the list...When the car came in and I saw it, I did not care for it at all...not to mention the lack of HP... I requested my $1,000. back and passed on the opportunity.

well let's see, the boxter takes some time to get used to the looks, and if you want to piss away an extra 20K go ahead. I have driven both and like the S better

S2000 at MSRP and some forced options = $35744 + tax and license
Boxster S MSRP with options I wanted = $73,002

You guys moan about a Boxster S at $52k - over here it is over $140k on road!

Didn't even look at one though because I don't like the looks - it's a big round blancmange, a 1990s Karmann Ghia to be precise.

Besides they still run those damn VW boxer motors in those Porsches - only took 'em 50+ years to get around to watercooling them and adding a couple of extra cylinders .
