And it's "Porsche" not "Porche!"

S2000 Driver it was a joke. It obviuosly sucked if you didn't catch it. I left the s out of porsche just like the person did in boxster.

boughtans2k,

Many people don't spell Porsche correctly either!

But I do like your sense of humor!

Here is why for me:

S2K win over boxster:
- price
- maintence cost (low in this case )
- social status (i just don't like the idea of driving a Porsche when you are too young {is 25 still too young? }. looks like you are driving your dad's car .. )
- styling (just like the look of S2K better, personal preference)
- glass rear windows (for MY2002)
- engine compartment is accessable
- it's a 4 cyl 2.0L VTEC engine with 8900rpm red line!

boxster wins over S2K"
- it's a Porsche (just the label ... )
- cool power top operation
- seems to easier to drive at the limit (that's what i read, no experience at all)
- 2 trunks!
- nav system is optional (expensive option ... )

anything else?

I'm a Honda guy. The price was right. The performance was right. The "snotty factor" is to high at Porsche (dealers and owners).

I didn't buy a Boxster because I wasn't interested in taking the cheapest model a manufacturer produces, no matter what manufacturer that is. And I remember hearing an uproar from Porsche owners who thought the Boxster looked a little bit too much like another model- I think it was the 911 Cabriolet. Anyway, the boxster seemed more like an "inclusion" attempt for Porsche to draw in a wider audience who couldn't spend 70K+ for a car. It made some people angry that the exclusive club was being opened up for membership.

But I never test drove a Boxster, so I can't say from the perspective of performance. The Boxster S wasn't out when I made my S2000 purchase either. I did compare the figures though. Mainly I chose the S2000 in 1999 when I saw a commercial with the S2000. I saw that commercial 3 times and it stuck with me. Then they stopped showing the commercials when the car actually went on sale, so I knew it had to be good :-)

deciding factors for me:

- value - everything I've seen / read points to S2K as the best value in this category
- no headaches - I've owned Hondas all my life and am a Honda bigot - I want fun - not headaches
- aesthetics - I prefer the S2K styling over all the other 2-seat roadster - sleak, simple, spartan - all substance

and - because dealers get a very very small number you really don't see a lot of them

No offense to you auto-crossers, so be kind. I love my S2000!!! I also love the Boxter Tpye S! They are both beautiful cars. The one thing that I've noticed is that it's very rare to see a Porsche, in general, that has been all teened up with big aluminum spoilers and whited out lights with crap all over it. It's just not my taste. Porsches have always looked classy, as well as sporty. Honda's are popluar cars among the younger crowds, which in turn, causes the value to drop so much faster than a Porsche. My next car will very likely be a Porsche Boxter Type S. There is a lot that comes with buying a Porsche. Prestiege, Performance, Engineering, Resale Value, etc... Not to say that most of those don't come with the S2000, but a Porsche is a Porsche and in 10 years will be a Porsche. I have a feeling that the S2000 will be like Toyota's Supra. A bad ass car that doesn't hang around long in the general publics eyes. When a Porsche drives by, everybody knows what it is and what it stands for.

Performance = S2000
Prestiege and Performance = Boxter (hence the higher price)

Rolex vs. Timex (get my drift?)

Yea, thats why the Blue Book value on a 2000 S2000 in excellent condition is $28,500. Lets see, MSRP was what, $32,000. So according to the blue book value, its lost 11% of its value. Its arguable whether you'll get that for it, however the blue book is the standard for measuring depreciation.

I'll give you that a 10 year old Porsche will probably pull in more than a 10 year old S2000, but you're talking about a car that is 2 years old. Where are you getting your data at on its "fast dropping value"?
