Default Did Honda go cheap?

Did Honda go cheap on my S2000? I'm talking about the paint. Every time I wash my car I see new paint chips. Small little square dots the size of a ballpen's tip. The one on the front bumper and hood I can undestand, but these can be found on the upper side and some on the rear trunk. She has enough Zaino on her to make her smooth as silk from front to back (yes some of my male friends get turn on by her smoothness )

I owned a 5th gen Prelude previously and in its 4years span I did not find a single paint chip on it. I still travel the same routes to work and leisure. I'm starting to wonder what the car might look like in 4years time.

comments?

All newer cars chip like crazy - new environmental regulations in most countries result in paints that are now thinner and softer...

The quality of paint is an ongoing issue...have had paint peel around the fender/bumper areas within weeks of purchasing the car and repainted under warranty.

I washed the car two nights ago. Drove it about 150 mph yesterday and washed it again last night. I found three or four new stone chips the size you mentioned. Its frustrating, especially in MI where loose gravel on the road is the rule rather than the exception.

My windshield had to be replaced at 1,700 miles. I'm at 10k now and its got a few good chips in it also.

The car's aerodynamics combined with its lowness to the ground play a part in it. I'm not sure I agree with the earlier comment about paint requirements changing. My wife's Subaru with the same number of miles doesn't show any chips any where.

My Porsche 944 from 1984 has less paint chips than my 2002 S2000.

My biggest dissapointment with the car is the paint

I do mostly highway driving and my paint is marked up too with stone chips ( I don't tailgate). I was going to practice on spare Motorcycle parts Tank & Fenders this winter when I perfect it I will do the painting on the S myself.

Do you guys/gals just leave the paint chips as is or keep applying touch up paint on it? I usually don't whine to my dealer about these things but if the problems continue 1 or 2 years down the road I see myself knocking on the manager's door.

All new cars use water-based paints. Older cars use oil based paints. The oil-based paints are far, FAR superior to the newer paints in terms of durability and longevity. There's not much you can do about the stone chips, all new cars have weaker paint, and it isn't just an issue with Honda. Even Mercedes and BMW don't have great paint.

Chalk one up to the environmentalists.
