I am scared too. I did a transaction with ILikeBeer based on trust, and it went well. Also did one with fotophil, but we met in person and traded merchandise with cash.

I know there are escrow services, but you have to be careful, some of them are setted up for the express purpose of fraud. Doesn't paypal have some kinda service that can protect the buyer and seller? or is that only via eBay?

I'm trying to sell a set of F1 tickets to a member, but we are coasts apart. Any thoughts?

well I am no expert but I do feel more secure if I am dealing with a member/moderator or other ppl who constantly post on the forum.

I will try not to pull a large amount transaction over the net, I'd rather pay a bit more and get it straight from the authorized distributors.

I did trust ppl a lot on the board until I witnessed some transations went ugly

I live in Belgium.... on the other side of the pond and I've done business with 2 board members so far:
#1 cjb80: excellent service and communication (carbon radiator panel)
#2 Jason B: excellent communication (carbon trim interior) [still in the mail somewhere between the US and Belgium

hey if I am dealing with cjb80 or jason B, I wont worry at all, both are excellent members of the board!!

I say lets make a list of all the scam artists, so we can minimize the chance of them scamming other members.

I might recommend something like the seller sending the part/item/contraband to a trusted third party and the buyer sending his money to this same person. When the third party gets the money and the part, he ships them to their new owner. Throw the third party a few bucks for his troubles and everyone is happy.

I think the wisest choice would be to ask the person selling items for a few referals from past transactions. I wouldn't hesitate to provide such a list and would encourage the potential buyer to contact those individuals I've dealt with in the past. I've had many PM's following my sales and these owners were eager to provide a reference if needed. I'd be careful dealing with those with little s2ki.com time who only post in the classifieds. It's hard to get scammed by someone posting 3-4x/day in various forums. 90% of bad trades/sales, etc usually happen due to communication (or lack of), not an outright steal of someone's money....that's EBay's schtick (think $1,000 superchargers).

I have dealt with several folks here - buying and selling - and had 0 problems. I would say that all the folks had been around a long time and had tons of posts. They would be a lot less likely to rip someone off - though there is no guarantee.

Sort of like eBay - someone could have lots of positive feedback and you could still end up not happy with the deal, but your are more like to have no problems.

Most of the folks here are good people and quite of few have helped me "offline" with checking out cars, etc just because they are cool.

I've done at least 50 transactions with board members, never a problem.
