Did you know that you can VTEC in reverse?

When he went to back out of the garage to test drive it the car went forward. Seems he installed the differential assembly upside down (yes it did fit). The result was that the car had 5 speeds in reverse and one forward!

OmiGod!! Did you have to leave an opening for a really awful joke? It seems the French had a number of tanks in World War II with that same 5 speeds in reverse and one forward. The forward speed was necessary to provide mobility when attacked from the rear.
I still cannot get over the concept of VTECing in reverse. That would require getting up to a good 25 mph while driving backwards. I hope nobody has forgotten that even the tiniest steering adjustments will produce extreme results when traveling in reverse at those speeds. Such stunts should be left to "Jackass, the Movie."

I have done Burnouts, 9krpm (I think you hit 46mph) and vteched. It's fun. heheh
I think Scot was the first on to do it. Anohter funny thing is to go about 35mph in 1st and put on the cruise control. It makes for a funny ride.
Doing this in reverse should be reserved to VERY large parking lots w/ nothing to hit. Yes small steering inputs make big changes going backwards but unless you smack a curb there is no way you'll get our car to flip, even at over 50mph going sideway.

You won't break the tranny... Reverse is a straight-cut gear, which is MUCH stronger than helical-cut gears.
This is why rally cars have a very loud 'whine' when they are racing... They have dogbox trannies with straight-cut gears because they are much much stronger. You will not "break" the reverse gear in an S2000 by doing this, but you risk wrecking due to the reasons mentioned above about steering inputs being exaggerated at high speeds in reverse.
The reason why you will never see straight-cut gears for the forward gears on a production car is because of the noise... Everybody complains enough about the gear noises in these cars as it is... Imagine if it was normal for it to make a loud whining noise all the time... Nobody would buy a car like that.

It scared me because I really wasn't expecting it.

reminds me of the movie risky business when he took out his dad's 928 and did the very same thing in a parking lot...

can you cruise control in reverse too?
