honda recommends every 30k, but since the differential is a weak point, every 10k miles is ideal. i personally am going to change it out once a year.

try to use mobil1 75w90 gear oil, advance auto parts has it for 8 bucks.

Many members including myself recommend changing it REALLY early, like 6K miles. After that, longer intervals would suffice but certainly not 25K.

I changed mine at just over 6000. black fuzzies on the magnetic drain plug, and the fluid was pretty dark.

definitely glad I changed it early... and will keep changing it fairly often. 30K is far too long IMO, esp. for something so easy to do.

Hm, i was gonna wait till i hit the 30K mark. Mine has only 23,000 miles on her. But now you guys got me thinking i might as well do it now while its winter and the car is sitting. This is why i Love S2KI

try to do it on a warm day and really give it time for all the old fluid to drain out. it's pretty thick, and if it's cool where you're at, it might flow very slow. will also make it kind of a pain when trying to squeeze in the new fluid via the tube (if you're following xviper's fantastic DIY thread instructions).

taking the S for a brief drive may also do well to warm up the fluid. any excuse for a drive, right?

By the way, after changing it around 6K I also changed it around 15K. Alot better, but still some metallic 'flakes' or 'dust' visible, and the fluid still looked somewhat gnarly.

Now you have one MORE thing to worry about besides terrorists around every corner and WMD's , and of course, looking good driving your 'S'

I currently have 16K on my '01. . .

I've been changing my differential fluid at every other oil change. . .

I also do the transmission fluid at every third oil change.

I'm of the mind that its inexpensive and the benefits far exceed any incremental cost concerns. . .
